I know I'm not, there's just no

OH MY GOD ARE YOU MAD??????

in the topic list.

The adult in chrage had full leathers yet the child did not. School jumper and school shorts that's all.

(I rode a bike for a while and wore leathers with a protective jacket.)

were no helmets - tsk

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/07/2008 17:48

btw YANBU - totally irresponsible of adult, same as people who don't bother with child restraints in cars - madness.

HE - When I rode a motorbike we were told in training that you can be as safe as you like it is other road uses/car drivers you need to watch out for. Also simple things like wet roads and slippy drains make conditions much more dangerous for riders than car drivers. My ex (an excellent advanced/policeman driver and rider) and I had a near accident on a patch of black ice once. The only accident he ever did have was with a motorist who was on the wrong side of the road...

I live in Italy and everyone takes their kids to school on motorbikes. They introduced a law about a year ago saying they had to be 5, but lots of people take their 3 yr olds to nursery - the law's not enforced. Def not in leathers (it is 40 degrees at the moment.) Usually they have helmets on though. People here think it's completely normal.

MaryAnn me too, back of dad's bike, just in flared cords and a dodgy t-shirt!

Mum having kittens about it, I was only allowed to go on the back a couple of times round the block but it was the best thing ever.

Yes it's dangerous and silly and totally inappropriate in this day and age.

But is a sense of danger something that's missing for children these days? (Sorry off topic).

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/07/2008 22:21

I'd be surprised by it these days (but not to the extent of calling the police), but I also used to ride on the back of my dad's bike in just my school summer dress and a helmet.

He spent about 15-20 years as an advanced driving instructor for the police. Wonder what his view would be these days...
