Very proud of myself tonight

Been for a run tonight! I used couch25k, so alot of walking involved but I made a start, and that’s the main thing. Only problem was when I went faster than a certain speed I very nearly wet myself 😳 3 children and 2 c sections doesn’t help!!

Any tips to keep the motivation ?! I am 2 stone over weight and 5ft 4 so it shows !

That's your body repairing and getting fitter ready for the next run 💪

AmnesiacDream · 08/10/2026 07:55

You are less unhealthy than you were before the run! I had a lot of hot baths and heat packs when I did C25K. It's sort of madness how much getting fit can hurt. But it's normal. And it will get less bad quite quickly.

Make sure you drink plenty of water. Dehydration makes it worse. Do not take ibuprofen, ideally let your body do it's thing, but if you really need a pain killer, so you can sleep, say, make it paracetamol. Go for a walk to get blood into your muscles and boost the healing process. If you don't have a stretch routine for after the run, look one up. They really help reduce the pain.

Good luck Op. You will amaze yourself.

Huge well done op!! I did C25k a couple of years ago and am doing my first marathon next month! Biggest thing that helped me was not to worry about your pace and just enjoy. It’s the enjoyment factor that means you keep getting up and going.

I used to be so tired and hungry doing it but you would be surprised how quickly you gain fitness and your body adjusts.
It used to, and actually still does, amaze me what my body was capable of doing. I was a firm non runner and thought I would never be able to run yet here I am. You should be so proud of yourself!

Thanks for the support ladies, I’m going again tonight, I think it’s helping getting out the house too as I’m a mum to 3 kids, all neurodivergent and two of them very little so it’s hard work in my house 😆

Well done! That’s far more than I’ve done in a long time.

Spikedlight · 08/10/2026 18:50

Oh well done. Stick with the programme and you'll improve so quickly, that in itself is a great motivator.

It's how I started running 20 years ago and now pretty much my whole life revolves around running, from parkruns, running club, organising races, and holidays to race all over the world, plus all the many friends I've made through running.

You are all motivating me to try again. Any recommendations for reasonably priced running shoes for outside?

CruelsummerTS · 08/10/2026 19:50

Well done. Starting is so hard. I did c25k a few years ago and have never let myself stop running for fear that I wouldn’t be able to get going again! I’ve done a half marathon this year. But a warning, it’s not a guarantee for weight loss, it made me so hungry! Focus on your fitness and health and not weight 👍🏻

Asics are good. Sports direct has them at more budget prices.

EveryDayisFriday · 08/10/2026 20:03

Amazing 👏. I'm not a runner (too tough on the knees) but have gone from exercise avoidant (for 40yrs) to a regular gym goer and 6st lighter.

Motivation doesn't work for me, I had to develop discipline. Just simple consistency, this is really hard at the start when you are unfit. After a few months, it does get easier but you have to push through the worst of it. There's no way I would believe that I would be a before 7am in the gym person 3yrs ago but I am now.

To make it more bearable, I have comfy workout clothes, a banging playlist and reward myself to a pamper shower afterwards. The post workout high and squeaky clean shower feeling is unbeatable.

Any reasonably cushioned trainers are fine for now. As your "prize" for completing the programme go to a proper running shop and have your gait analysed, take their advice.
