How late would you hoover at night?

How late would you hoover at night if you were in a terrace house with thin partition walls?

9pm but a lot would depend on my neighbours. If I knew they had small kids who were in bed at 7.30 then I wouldn't hoover after that or if I knew my neighbour worked shifts and was asleep at 9pm. I admit I don't have a long commute so can set washer/dryer/hoover early in the evening. However with shift work and commutes other people may not have a choice

9pm

Lexingtonavenueandme · 30/09/2026 21:02

8.30ish unless I’d knocked something over or broken something and I needed to quickly hoover a very small area.

8.45pm.

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/09/2026 21:05

Not before 9am and not after 9pm. Unless I had dropped glassware or crockery and it had smashed.

MCF86 · 30/09/2026 21:06

I live in a flat and don't hoover enough because of this dilemma! Convenient for me would either be 6.30 am or 9pm once its tidy again from DC playing/eating and neither of them feel very neighbourly!

Wingingit73 · 30/09/2026 21:06

9 i think.

morart · 30/09/2026 21:07

I have no reason to be hoovering late at night, it’s a firm day job here. That said if I wanted to do it late on I absolutely would because both neighbours are noisy bastards anyway.

Newmeagain · 30/09/2026 21:08

I would not choose to do it in the evening but if I had to then about 9. Vacuum cleaners can be really noisy. Even worse if hitting skirting boards etc as you do it.

mybiggreenfrog · 30/09/2026 21:09

Would depend on whether there were children next door. If so 7, if not 9.

AmnesiacDream · 30/09/2026 21:58

I would only hover after 6 pm if it were an emergency of some sort (mainly spiders).

FancyKitten · 30/09/2026 22:01

I’ve never thought about it…
Neither have my neighbours!

That seems early. A lot of people would not even be home from work before then.

incognito1991 · 30/09/2026 22:08

Once DD goes to sleep at 7 I then clean the kitchen and lounge and hoover around 19:40-20:00. Although I’ve never once heard any noise from neighbours through the walls so assume they can’t hear the hoover

It's not a rule I expect of others (or even a rule!). I should have been clearer. I'm at home most days, so can do it in the daytime. Like others on this thread, I just don't want to be vacuuming in the evening.

Copperoliverbear · 30/09/2026 22:13

9pm

ReturnYourParcel · 30/09/2026 22:15

It would depend on who lived in the immediately adjoining houses to mine. If they had young children, then I think it would be un-neighbourly of me to use the vacuum cleaner or make a lot of noise upstairs after about 7.30 in the evening, as children might be trying to sleep, but downstairs I think the cut-off time could be a bit later, say 8.30.
If neither of the neighbours had children, I think 9.30 or perhaps 10.00 pm is reasonable.

Freshrain · 30/09/2026 22:27

It would depend on who my neighbours were, in terms of making that level of noise but, I wouldn't be vacuuming in the evenings, because I'd either be busy or relaxing. I've never, ever felt the need to vacuum in the evenings.

JustWalnut · 30/09/2026 22:29

I wouldn't hoover past 9pm, partly out of consideration, partly out of laziness!

Flamingojune · 30/09/2026 22:30

Ive never hoovered in the evening in my life

theblame · 30/09/2026 22:34

11pm - 7am quiet time is our apartment rules for noisy stuff so any time outside of that

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · 30/09/2026 22:57

I’d say 9pm - unless your neighbours have young kids, in which case maybe earlier.

TheChosenTwo · 30/09/2026 23:01

Blimey I used the Hoover in my house after 8pm when I had my own small children in the house!

I will hoover when I need to, we don’t often eat dinner until 9pm so if I need to whizz it round after that I will. Never hear next door Hoover but we have quite a thick partition wall, have heard DIY type hammering noises a few times over the years but never any regular household appliances so presume it’s the same for them. She’s certainly never said anything and she would if something was bothering her.

FlapperFlamingo · 30/09/2026 23:05

8pm or earlier if there were children next door

ImaSpringChicken · 30/09/2026 23:17

10pm
Not hoovering before 10 am is absurd.who is still asleep at 10am?
