To think that all children in year R should be able to go to their school disco?

My 4 year old daughter has just started in year R. Today I got an email from the PTA with information about the school disco, which is in October. Each year group is at a different time so year R’s disco will be from the end of the school day until 4pm. I know from a mum friend that pupil premium children have been able to book their tickets for free all week whereas for everyone else they go on sale at the weekend. This wouldn’t be a problem, but there is a limited number of tickets with a waiting list for those who don’t manage to get a ticket. On the website there is even a live countdown to when booking opens. I don’t think the limited number of tickets is down to the ratio of adult helpers to children as I haven’t received anything about asking for volunteers - I’d happily volunteer if it meant more children could go!

But she will have so many experiences that a child on PP may miss out on. Her next birthday party. Family get together. Holiday. Even her weekend. Could all be just something a child on PP doesn’t get. It’s very low income. It’s looked after children. They won’t get an advantage anywhere else in life. Give them the school disco.

It should be open to all children, equally, or just don't bother. 4 and 5 year olds can't understand why little so-and-so got a ticket and they didn't.

And what about the kids with parents earning just above the cut off who probably can't hammer the refresh button during a shift. If they can't accommodate all the kids, they shouldn't do it.

It’s a bit more than that. Each child that’s “pupil premium” the LA will allocate the school £1550 per child.

Kids of that age dont understand PP but they do understand they would like to go to the disco. It should be open to all children or none at all.

of extras. Like activate Essex which is free play schemes and holiday clubs for them . Not for the kids whose parents actually work yet can't afford to send the kids to paid holiday activities

And many parents book the spaces and don't even bother to send their kids

Those lucky PP children! Imagine the country thinking they would be safer and happier not being at home during the school holidays and financing it.

That’s life though. The school receives the money. If they had no pp children they’d be a lot worse off. It brings a lot of money in that the school wouldn’t necessarily have.

Lots of pp parents actually work! It is subsidised. How can you be upset with disadvantaged children?

And what about the other kids who are home as their parents can't afford for them to do anything? Where's their opportunities?

A looked after child, just to give one example is at a great disadvantage to your child. You are an invested parent, who is giving a lot of time and thought to the injustices about the school disco. I'd happily stand back and let a LAC have priority booking. The same for those living in poverty.

Some kids live in families just above the cut off point and they don't live affluent lives. Let's have fairness for all children.

The pupil premium is only an issue because there isn't enough tickets for everyone. Totally unfair that some kids may miss out.
