If you are wanting to lose weight or if you maintain a slim figure but dont go on a specific diet or calorie count. What eating patterns/ habits do you have to achieve this? I have a busy and a social lifestyle so conventional diets don’t work for me and to be honest I just end up breaking them.. how do you achieve the above on the go etc

Leave the car at home

Good advice, but what if you don't have a car?

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 28/09/2026 14:16

I eat pretty much whatever I want and am very slim (underweight BMI) but am a very active harrier club runner, currently running about 120 km a week, add dog walks, walks to/from the train station on my commute days. I feel like I can’t eat enough to keep up with it

Walk

But how can you leave the car at home if you don't have one?

Leave the car at the car dealers?

Could you cut down or adjust some of the activity in order to reach a healthy weight and increase bone density? It will benefit you as you get older.
My oldest friend is a GP and she's started suggesting to me that I work on mitigating the increased risks associate with post menopausal women of low body weight.

In all honesty, I think it's genetic for me. I've always been slim, was actually very skinny as a child. I never think about what I eat or drink and nothing makes a difference.

I do need to exercise for fitness and strength. And I've had my ups and downs with that over the years, of course. But it's never affected my weight or general shape.

I’m not fussed on takeaways and big portions. I eat too many sugary things but guilt and fullness makes me skip or reduce other meals so it balances out.

I think you're right. I used to be able to eat what I liked. Until mid 30s, then no more, so I've seen both sides and I know not every slim person is careful with what they eat and not every overweight person overeats.

Then there's much more of a chance that you stay slim without dieting.

No wonder! You'd need to eat about an extra 1500 calories a day to offset that, that's impressive mileage.

Dailychive · 29/09/2026 15:08

I was always slim. Could eat what I wanted and put no weight on. However, since turning 40 this has changed . I'm probably eating less than I ever have but weight had crept up.

Bolonese · 01/10/2026 14:14

Within reason I eat whatever I want between the hours of 10am - 5pm, but nothing outside of that window. I have a big bowl of porridge with fruit and homemade granola followed by a coffee everyday for breakfast which really kills my appetite until mid afternoon. Ever since I did that, the weight has fallen off me to the point I have to make sure to eat a lot during that time period so I dont look gaunt. I believe they call it intermittent fasting, doesn't work for everyone but I find it very sustainable because I love my food so I don't really have to deny myself anything e.g. if I really fancy a burger and chips, I can just say, I'll order one for myself tomorrow for lunch.

I think a lot of it is to do with food noise - although I know it’s a controversial term.

I think about food all the time! Even if I have say a massive 3 course Sunday roast between 1 and 2 pm, by 3pm I’ll be asking DH what he wants for dinner later! He will be “still full” and skip dinner whereas I will still want dinner, even if it’s just something small like a sandwich.

Some people will call it greed but I genuinely crave food all the time even when I know I can’t possibly need it/be truly physiologically hungry. (I also have a problem with alcohol so maybe the two are linked - I think I get a massive dopamine hit from both eating and drinking).

For people who don’t believe in “food noise”/think it’s just greed - they’ve no idea what it’s like to live fighting cravings all day, every day. As a PP said, some people are just not that bothered about food 🤷‍♀️

Edited

I didn't really know what "food noises" were until I started on Mounjaro. A bit like I didn't know where my pelvic floor was until I was 9 months pregnant 😆

It's obvious to me know, but I can understand why people wouldn't believe it in until they've experienced it.
