To think that "training" really greasy hair just isn't possible for some people?

I've had greasy hair from being a teenager. I went from washing my hair once a week as a 10 year old to washing it every day as a 14 year old. I only started washing it more frequently because it became so unbelievably greasy I couldn't have gone out/gone to school like that.

I have tried to wash it less often several times over the years, the longest time I could manage was in COVID but I still didn't get it looking any better really. I'd even be happy if I could just wash it every other day but by about hour 30 it looks like I've just got a handful of oil and smeared it all over my head.

I've seen/heard lots of people say that if you just train it for a few months it'll sort itself out but aibu to think this just isn't true for some people?

Yes, that puzzles me, because the scalp gets sweaty and dirty, and so does the hair. Otherwise why do people in catering and health services wear caps and hats?

Yeah I’m 51 and my hair has always needed a daily wash. The only thing that I can occasionally get away with is wetting it in the shower (so no shampoo etc), drying it, and maybe some dry shampoo. Can’t really see the point of that unless I know I’m going to be shampooing later that day eg after the gym.

Exactly same with me! It was an amazing time for my hair (my lips, not so much 😂).

I will say, one of the best shampoos I have tried for my greasy hair is the Keratase Bain Divalent and as my hair usually gets greasy overnight, it’s one of the best ones I use if I want to wash my hair evening before and it not be greasy the next morning. It’s expensive though so I use mostly when I want hair to look half decent the next day as opposed to my usual tied back!

My hair is fine and I was washing it every day at one point, but I brought it back to every other day.

I generally just brush it on Day 2 but sometimes just wash the front section, if absolutely desperate!

Mine is oily and I wash it every other day but only managed that after I no longer had a side fringe. I can’t wet it though on the second day, I have to wear a shower cap over it.

She must be rincing her hair in between washes with shampoo, surely? Maybe with an atringent like apple cider vinegar to kill germs and remove oils. In which case, she is washing her hair, otherwise she'd be a bit pungent (to put it politely).

Yes, it's strange, although I took "not washing" to be literally that!

I got picked on at school, not to my face, but I could see them pointing at my crown. My parents wouldn't let me wash it every day.
