Nasty AI food posters

I went into town today and to a touristy bit with a lot of food stalls, I hadn't been in a while so this took me by surprise. The sheer amount of food places that have really terrible looking AI images on them. The better ones looking like plastic food and the worse ones looking like trypophobic brain surgery. There's a cheapie pizza place that used to have a poster of a nice looking pizza in the window and I used to always crave pizza when I walked past. They've changed it to a picture of a pizza looking like it's made out of play-doh and doesn't have cheese on it. Well I'm not going to crave pizza anymore when I walk past! I'm wondering, truly wondering, what is going through the owners heads when they put these up. Do they think it looks nice??? These places had normal pictures up before so it looks like they've made the active decision to take down their old pictures and replace with AI. Maybe it was a little while ago and they saw this new thing that can make a picture for you, and thought that's sooooo cool I want this modern thing for my shop! And now they regret it because everyone else did the same thing and it just looks cheap and embarrassing now.

Can anyone post an image as an example? I am not sure what’s being discussed and am intrigued!

The thing is they’re all so samey that the individual businesses just blend into one big mass. I see the AI poster on my Facebook feed and skim over it because I’m sure I’ve already seen it twice that morning, so in a way it’s the opposite of what they’re actually trying to achieve.
There’s a new cafe near me and they’ve used AI images for all their branding, including the sign above their store front, just makes me think their food is going to be fake and bland so I’m avoiding the place completely.

Wow. I see what you mean. Why would they do that?!!!

Many years ago I went on a few dates with a chap who created food for food adverts. Polystyrene was something he used a lot as it was easy to carve and shape, paint, re-shape, stick back together etc., and more importantly it didn't melt or shrivel or congeal under the strong lighting and could sit there all day if needed.

A butchers near me uses alot of AI images, I might have used them if they didn't.

If their food looks good enough they should be able to take some decent photos of it and create their own posters easily enough. Getting AI to generate fake food images is lazy as hell. Also if there’s one thing GPT hasn’t got good at yet it’s posters…

What i dont get is why the AI posters all use this kind of burnished colour theme. Does anyone knkw what I mean? 😂

It's weird because a lot of the cheaper end of food places had slightly rubbish pictures, that I never particularly liked. But these are definitely worse. And all have the same vibe. Definitely uncanny valley.
