To warn you that Bristol airport has become a shit hole?

I had the misfortune of flying out of there this morning.

Departures is far too small for the number of flights they have running. Everyone is rude, pushing in front of each other and not paying attention to their surroundings. The prices are ludicrous, even for an airport they’re unjustifiable. The layout of the new check in area is a joke, they just can’t get any of it right. Avoid!!!

It's a shame you didn't have a good experience, we flew recently and it was excellent, though we did fly very early. The parking is too expensive though.

Unlike everyone else at security I followed the very clearly signposted instructions, headed straight to departures and picked up an iced coffee for £6 (!!), did some shopping and headed to the gate.

Bristol is bad but Lyon is worse - much worse

I flew out from Bristol 6weeks ago and it was quite pleasant. Especially now the Carparks have been finished

I’ve yet to experience a decent airport in the UK tbf. Manchester is terrible currently. They’ve spent a fortune on it and yet it still feels grubby and tired. Most of the flight information boards seem to be in the restaurants so you have to stand by some person trying to eat while checking flight details. I also had the misfortune of 6 hours in Heathrow T5 earlier this year. Rammed everywhere and again, grubby.

Isn't that just pretty standard prices at Starbucks and similar? I find Bristol one of the cleanest airports, the worst we've been to was Nice which was chaotic and dirty.

Maybe at stations etc., but when I was here last (2 years or so ago), it was £4.50 for an iced coffee

Worst I think I’ve ever been to was Dalaman. Admittedly a long time ago, however. Keflavik in Iceland was lovely.

We’ve been known to drive 100s of miles to avoid Manchester even though we’re 30 minutes down the motorway. It’s about £5,000 a minute to pick up too.

maybe there will be a thread about the really rude woman at Bristol airport who caused a scene?!

Heathrow charged me £5 for a black coffee with absolutely no extras. No milk or sugar never mind syrups etc etc. I think Costa and the like are just ridiculously priced full stop these days. In airports, however, it’s a completely captive audience and don’t they know it! See also, £7 for a Boots pasta salad.

I wouldn’t blink at £6 for an ice coffee- though I wouldn’t pay it. I just take an empty water bottle and fill them at the free stations. I feel like everywhere charges that now? But yes I agree airports aren’t the best experiences but are a means to an end! We always pay for fast track and also we get the airport lounge for free. I flew a few weeks ago and a whole picnic for the family- it was lovely! Recommend doing that

I honestly can’t remember. I’d just come off an overnight long haul flight and it was an emergency purchase!

The only problem with Bristol Airport is getting there.
It's in open countryside. It's not near any rail infrastructure and parking is extortionate. (You see many people getting dropped off outside the site and walking in from the A38.).
Apparently during WW2 it was a training place for pilots because it's high altitude means it's often fog bound. (I discovered this when I went on a school trip to the original control tower about 40 years ago and the air traffic controllers had nothing to do because all flights were being diverted due to fog!).
It would have made more sense to convert the aircraft works at Filton to a regional airport, but the land has been sold for housing and the hangar where Concorde was built will be an arena.

Bristol is my local airport , and I agree travelling in or out of there whilst the extensive renovations and increased parking provisions were happening was frustrating, to say the least.
I believe the parking charges are the second highest of any UK airport , but the rest of the pricing is pretty standard I think.
One thing that had hugely improved on our last visit was the Special Assistance - hoping this will still be the case next time …. 🤞

It was just hyperbole in conversation. I took it as meaning the OP met lots of rude people. I can believe it.
