Strange question from TA?

DS has just told me about something that happened just before the summer holidays.

There is a (male, not sure is relevant)TA that also teaches them music once per week (year 2).

DS asked to go to the toilet and when he came back, the TA pulled him to the side and asked “did you do a number 1 or a number 2?”

AIBU to find this a strange thing to ask?! Or am I being OTT?aib

I remember being asked this exact same question when I was a child at school by a supply teacher. I’m in my mid 30s and I remember feeling extremely uncomfortable about it. I told her I needed a wee and she told me I wasn’t allowed to go. I will always find that utterly bizarre, a child should always be allowed to go to the toilet regardless.

"Sorry, really random question but my son mentioned to me that before the holidays, you asked him if he had been for a number 1 or 2 after using the toilet. May I ask what was the relevance of this?"

His reaction will tell all. It's likely he perhaps was gone for a while or the TA noticed a smell, mark etc etc. Not everything is sinister but you can really never be too careful.

Worse case scenario you feel silly for asking, which is well worth it to safeguard your kids. Though in any event I wouldn't feel silly or awkward asking, as it would be done in the name of protecting my children.

Definitely ask to put your mind at rest however, if the TA is anything like me they may not remember because they ask the question several times a day, for a plethora of reasons.
I would (and do) ask if a child has been gone longer than usual and I’m worried they might need support or have been messing around, if there’s a whiff, if they’ve complained of stomach ache recently, if they’ve been visiting the toilets a lot, if there’s mess in the toilets or signs that a child has had a stomach bug and we are trying to track them down…

My job contains far more toileting related tasks than I expected, back when I was training.

I would probably struggle to remember a conversation like this 2-3 months later.
