you see we have a love hate thing going on, he sometimes brings me flowers and chocolates and other such goodies, for a while I thought he enjoyed seeing me every morning as instead of putting mail throu the letterbox he rang the bell obviously to see how utterly
rough ravishing I looked tthought I, wrong I discovered elliot had sellotaped letterbox up
anyway I digress, this morning he cheerfully handed over a pile of crap letters which included....
urgent reminder for jury service
funeral bill and letter to let me know steves ashes are ready for collection.
a booklet from the crem with a price list of memorial stuff
a brand shiny new credit card for Steve
and some chancer trying to sell me life insurance, cos apparently you'll never know when you might need it.
thank feck the postie doesnt come on Sundays
so a few more things to sort out on Monday.
No need to reply just want to vent really.

I hate my postman too. All he seems to bring be is letters asking for money from a bloke I call Bill.

I'm sorry for your loss. My dad died a few weeks ago so I had all of this crap too.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 28/06/2008 09:20

Awww sweet.

Good you vent here and not at the Postman though Dont shoot the messenger they say, dont they?

Things like that could crop up for some time though and catch you unawares. Although I'm sure you are already aware.

aaaaw! Not the best post day then, you poor thing! After helping my mum wade through similar paperwork recently, I know what a strange collection of mind boggling/expensive and some downright ironic post you can get. As you work your way through it I know it will ease up soon for you. Prioritise the time sensitive stuff and take your time on the rest. x

In our last house we had a very quirky postie who would ring the doorbell and give you a running commentary on what he was about to hand you "2 bills, handwritten letter and oooh this looks interesting!..." type thing. DH even asked him if there was a problem with our letterbox and he said that he perferred the "personal touch" so if he knew people would be in he would always ring the bell Great for some lonely people maybe but for busy souls working from home at the top of the house or elderly people who struggle onto their feet he was one hell of a pest!

OJ - crap for you I know. Hopefully you'll get nice things again soon.
I on the other hand am peed off as postie has just walked past me saying nothing for you today . . . It's dd's birthday tomorrow .

avenanap · 28/06/2008 10:10

Oh, Poor DD. Tell her happy birthday from us

mistypeaks · 28/06/2008 10:13

thanks. It's my own fault if I went to moms and toddlers groups she'd have more little friends.
We are going to my moms this weekend so a few of my mates may well have sent stuff there (?)

Alambil · 28/06/2008 10:24

oh OJ it's that sort of thing that is almost unexpected

Can you get out of jury service?

Hope you're doing "ok" - that sounds crap but I hope you know what I mean

onlyjoking9329 · 28/06/2008 10:52

I already spoke to the jury people who sent me the summons on the day Steve died. They said they would put a note on file and extend the 7 days that you have to respond by. The reply to them was sent last week, so it has either got lost or crossed in the post. There is a £1000 fine if you don't respond within the time limits
you can ask to be deferred or excused, as I am sole carer for the kids I have asked to be excused.
will ring them on Monday.

No post here today, but postie still legged it across our garden to save himself two seconds. Grrr....

spamm · 28/06/2008 11:14

OJ - sorry that your post was quite so bad this morning.

Has Elliot told you what he was thinking when he sellotaped the letterbox up? I love the idea - will that stop my gas bill?

We used to have a fab postie, Stuart, who I always gave a cup of tea or a lemonade to. He used to stop and talk to everybody, all the old folks and the village shop, etc... then somebody complained about the post being late and he resigned because he was fed up. We now have an anonymous one who never smiles or says hello. I miss Stuart.

wotulookinat · 28/06/2008 11:20

For some strange reason I got two postal deliveries this morning. One was at 8am and one at 11am.

ilovemydog · 28/06/2008 11:27

Very brave of you to even open the mail!

Wonder if you can have a change of address if you haven't moved?

Tell your postman you only want NICE things in future
