How can I help a child who is being exposed to weed on a regular basis.
I do my daily walk in the park and on several occasions I saw a boy about 5 yo with a male carer (?father) and a dog (dangerous breed type). The father always smokes a joint which I can smell from the distance. It leaves me outraged every time and my instinct is to want to protect the child but im not sure how to go about that. do i report to SS with the little info i can provide to identify them? or am i being altogether silly to think this can be helped?

That's how they are when they're around you. Behind closed doors it can be a different story.

I'm not arguing about the harm it doesn't- or does- cause. I'm pointing out that an adult shouldn't be taking illegal substances around a child.

Worrying that some posters think it enhances their parenting.

Again, it's legal when vaped or ingested via prescription. Should those parents not take their prescribed medication when around children?

It happens everywhere in London! Can’t walk 5 mins without being hit by a waft.

It's not just the taking of the substances, it is that the child could access them at home, and has happened, a dog ingest the remains of one depending on where the joint is put out.

Pity you did not feel able to go to a place out of earshot and call 111 as a safeguarding issue there and then.

Also by supporting the illegal trade you are in my opinion a racist given who dies as a result of it.

I don’t really think it’s much worse than a parent sitting having a glass of wine or two with a child present, aside from the second hand smoke .

Police don't have the resources to stop every single individual smoking a joint. It's commonplace where I live. You smell it in the neighbourhood. I don't agree with it especially for those with mental health problems as it often exacerbates them. I have a zero tolerance policy in the family home for any type of substance use. I also cannot stand the smell. It's disgusting.

It's doubtful anything will happen anyway if they're in a park. Many use it openly and don't care.
