Do you think trials being on TV ever impact the outcome?

Thinking about the Lindsay Clancy trial that is ongoing. I cannot even imagine being a witness when you know the whole world is watching. There are almost certainly things about my life when, if asked, I might say out loud in a private court room, but not when it is bring broadcast. I don't think I agree with trials being broadcast on TV. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Really intrigued!

Most countries don't broadcast trials. There's a reason.

Surely in a court room you tell the truth. Especially if you are the accused.

I didn't realise this one was being broadcast live.

But if you knew you could be potentially broadcast to millions of people, as a witness, you might not come forward at all!

Been thinking about this today. I'm glad we don't do it in the UK.

As if it's not bad enough that your children have been murdered, the whole world treating it like an Agatha Christie and scrutinising everything you do must make it a million times worse

I agree they don’t really need to be televised.

But I also think that some cases catch the public attention regardless of them being televised. This case is one, Lucy Letby is another - both involving people on the internet with a lot of opinions about what they think the truth is. Women accused of killing children or babies (whether their own or not) will grab attention.
That mushroom murder case in Australia is another - a female killer with an Agatha Christie worthy murder method.

In theory yes. In reality lots of people will act very differently when they know their face and words are being broadcast to millions of people around the world.
