  • in Edinburgh specifically

you can do it using this form (although 101 is better - and 999 in an emergency, which some of these situations have been)

From the sounds of it the numbers arent huge

I would say over 100 assaults today in a couple of hours. That's why I want to encourage everyone to report theirs.

I. Was. There. There is no data yet because it hasn't been reported fully.

You personally saw over a hundred women assaulted today?

I was assaulted, the same incident went on for a couple of hours against multiple victims. Colleagues and friends also involved. Either you are a councillor or a troll so no further questions ta.

I live in Edinburgh and haven’t seen this. I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but links of any reporting at all would be helpful. You said it was all over social media, can you share please?

I'm.neither, I just don't understand from your original post and I think others are struggling also. When it happened to me 3 little 💩 s waited till I came round a corner then ripped binbags outside a shop started pelting me then throwing it over me, they must have been 14/15. It was horribly upsetting and I felt very vulnerable.

But I don't understand how you are aware of 100 incidents? Where do that number come from?

Look on Reddit, Facebook, tiktok or Edinburgh live

It is all over the news and social media - how did you miss the woman who was punched in the face last week? Please don't talk this down just because you live in a bubble.

I live here too and while I’ve seen the social media reports and news on that one incident it’s not something I’ve come across and I’m in the centre daily. I’m not trying to say it doesn’t happen but you were quite rude to the other local resident who didn’t recognise it either.

Can you share a single link to anything? I've googled and can find nothing

There's no need to be so arsey.

I'm really sorry that you were assaulted. It must have been a horrible experience.

But, even though you have had a very bad experience, and know others who were involved, it's very clear that many of us haven't had similar personal experiences, don't know of anyone who has had similar experiences and haven't had these incidents cropping up in our social media feeds.

I think, as you're talking about hundreds of victims it's perfectly reasonable for other posters to ask for evidence, data etc.

(Edited to rephrase the last sentence for clarity).

weebarra · 19/08/2026 22:08

I work in Edinburgh and live just outside and hadn’t seen anything other than that poor woman the other week. I can well believe it though, although I was working in Wester Hailes today and certainly wasn’t aware of anything there.

Plinketyplonks · 19/08/2026 22:10

I live near Edinburgh and husband works near Princess St and hasn’t heard anything. Had a look on Google news but not much info. However the Reddit Edinburgh forum has more - seems a well known group of lads chucking eggs etc.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 19/08/2026 22:11

Just don’t go anywhere near McDonalds at St Andrew Square at nighttime. Lawless.

I’ve looked at Reddit and Edinburgh Live. I don’t have Facebook or TikTok. I see a photo of some kids throwing eggs, agree this is awful behaviour and should be stopped. I don’t see anything other than that so can you explain how you witnessed 100 people assaulted? In what way were they assaulted? Punched, pushed?

Portakalkedi · 19/08/2026 22:14

Sounds horrendous, but not heard of it here in the NW. So many feral kids though, with useless parents, the country is is a bad way and only seems to get worse.

itsmeagainagain · 19/08/2026 22:50

You could work on your tone @FestivalFringeAssaults people are just asking questions why don’t you just answer them instead of getting defensive you’re coming across a bit ‘unusual’

ThatLemonBee · 19/08/2026 23:26

I didn’t see this either , assuming is mostly a city issue .

WildGarlicSoup · 19/08/2026 23:33

Daughter in Edinburgh has heard nothing about this. Nor her boyfriend or friends. Also just checked with elderly relatives who live there and they said this is nonsense.

Sorry this happened to you but scaremongering is extremely irresponsible.

Foundround · 19/08/2026 23:46

Honestly, it is terrible. Gangs of teenagers head to toe in black often with their faces covered. I've seen them in town doing it (shouting at people, throwing food and drinks) and I work from home so am very rarely in town. I've also seen them on bikes in our (relatively 'nice') area. I drove DD home from sport one night around 10pm and they surrounded the car. I had to drive around the block and park elsewhere as they would have surrounded us again had we gotten out, it was pretty scary.

The online reporting form is a good idea, but the police do not act on any of these incidents with teenagers (even when a friends child was assaulted and injured by teens in school uniform caught on shop CCTV they said they wouldn't act).

Police are so under resourced that unless it is a domestic, murder, serious assault, serious drugs or sexual offences they just don't bother and with teens there are no consequences anymore so not worth wasting their time investigating.

With no consequences for teens committing all but the most serious crime and with no resources for youth clubs and services nothing is likely to change anytime soon unfortunately. I am sorry for your experience and will fill out the form the next time something happens.

Coldnorthwind · 19/08/2026 23:52

Can you share a link please? I live in Edinburgh not far from the centre and haven't heard of any such issues.

It sounded, from the op's posts, that there were loads of big gangs of teenagers roaming around and attacking strangers.

Going by that reddit thread (and the links on the thread and then links on that thread etc) there seem to be the same small group of 3 or 4 obnoxious yobs causing a lot of trouble. They definitely need to be reported, caught and dealt with but it's not quite the same situation as implied in the first post on this thread.

Ahhh, apologies! I did see another thread on Reddit, I'll see if I can find it.
