AIBU to wonder if glaucoma eye drops affect taste and smell?

Hi,

I'm on some eye drops for glucoma.
I use:
Monopost. Once at night
Softacort , 4 times a day
ikervis, once daily

I had a cold 2 weeks ago and my nose was blocked up.

The issue is I can't taste or smell anything.
I'll get a very slight smell of somethings and nothing from others.
Am I being unreasonable thinking this could be the drops I use for my eyes?

Has anyone else who has glucoma had any similar experience when they've been using their eye drops.

or is it a cold which is taking it's time go away?

Thankyou.

what does the package leaflet say?

but, yes, eye drops can affect taste. I take allergy eyedrops when my hayfever is bad and I can definitely taste them. the sinus cavities are connected to eye and nose.

if you’ve been on the drops for a while and the loss of taste and smell coincides with the recent cold I’d think it more likely that.

Could be that your cold was Covid. That’s well know for taking taste and smell away for a while in some people.

Having been on the receiving end of what probably amounts to litres of prescription eye drops over the years due to uveitis rather the than glaucoma, it’s highly possible. Any liquid that goes into your eyes makes its way into your sinuses because it’s all connected, sinuses not only contribute to your sense of smell, but also taste. If the dropper bottles came in boxes, have a look at the paperwork in them and see if it’s a known side effect, and if it’s really bothering you, tell the clinic.

Thankyou for your reply, I will look at the leaflet. My drops were changed recently, so haven't been able to read the leaflet.

The drops are new prescription and I'm not sure if its the change in drops or I just happened to have a cold.

I did a covid test it showed as negative.

Unfortunately my drops are a long term thing so not being able to smell and taste is going to be a nuisance.

You can taste eye drops. Doing punctal occlusion (press corner of the eye near nose) can help. Brinzolamide and similar drops have a bitter aftertaste.
