Sorry - clearly posting here for traffic. I’ve been slow at cleaning up period accidents and need your recommendations for blood stain removers that actually work. Not a serial killer, I promise.

I use a HG stain remover from amazon called "Blood milk sauce" which name makes my family last but that and bright direct sunshine or last resort if on whites, bleach

Only on cotton, but soak in cold water with a dissolved dishwasher tablet for 30 mins. Anything other than cotton won't be robust enough, but works well on pants.

Hydrogen peroxide 3% on delicates, 6% on more robust fabrics. Cold water only, heat sets the stain.

On what time of surface? I can recommend "Inspired Professional Mattress Stain Remover, Organic Stain Remover" from Amazon. It's got some enzymes in it that just eat everything. I used it on DD's disgusting uni mattress and it was brilliant. It's the consistency of water - I assume it would do the job on the sofa or carpet but you'd have to read the label.

In the past when I had those awful heavy periods, I used puppy pads on the bed, and a set of black knickers specifically for period time. Now they have period pants which I would have loved. Anyway....

There are some good suggestions for stain removal. Great being a woman isn't it? Men don't know they were born.

Ace gentle bleach, the blue bottle not the white one.
This does not remove colour.
When you dab it on blood it immediately fizzes up you then just soak or put in the washing machine.
it’s excellent and cheap.

Thank you - I have loads of DD tracksuit bottoms to rescue but the worst is car seat 😫We were involved in a car accident shortly after the period leak, so car was taken to garage before I could do anything about the blood.

Then Autoglym Interior Shampoo is your friend. They used to do a convertible fabric hood cleaner with enzymes but I can't see it on Amazon.

I use a bar of standard hand soap I rub it in well then wash it out in cold water if it hasn't all gone I rub some more on before putting it in the washing machine. It works better than vanish and is cheaper.

AssassinsEyebrow · 19/08/2026 19:27

Run under the cold tap until the blood starts to shift. When you've rinsed it out as much as possible, wring and apply Vanish Power Gel. Leave to soak.
When putting in wash, run on a cold or rinse cycle first then wash as normal.
Works every time.

Black underwear makes a difference too.
