I love a bus hopper fare as much as the next person but enough is enough. Isn’t it?

I’m a top tier fan of Labour and Andy seems like a nice bloke but:
a) He’s on social media so much I’m beginning to wonder if, once parliament is back from its little holiday, he’s going to have enough time to run our somewhat complex country between making reels.
b) every single bloody post appears to be about buses. Buses are great but I feel like there are other issues. World peace anyone?

I was looking forward OP to you telling us about how you use your day rider. Do you like a bus day ticket or not? If so, tell us your favorite routes and how you get value for money? As a driver who rarely uses buses, the cost is quite shocking. And I live in a major city (admittedly with the worst transport system of any city of this size in Europe). When a parent was dying I traveled down by train (high cost) and got the bus to the hospital, a daily ticket was nearly the cost of paying for the day in an NCP car park!

WallowingInMud · 18/08/2026 22:20

I live in London and the bus hopper fare (as many buses as you like within an hour and ten minutes although they dont publicise the ten minutes) is a thing of pure joy.

But even Mr Khan doesn’t pop out hourly reels about it.

As a public transport user i think the cost of owning and driving a car is truly shocking

I believe he made a statement in the last 24 hours about how we will continue to support Ukraine and Russia won't frighten us off with their threats re drone supplies. So the world peace element of things hasn't been entirely neglected.

I wasn't in favour of him running for PM but I think he's done a decent job so far, and I can't blame him for paying attention to communicating with the public as that was very obviously a weak point for Starmer.

hahabahbag · 18/08/2026 22:34

He is a bit busy obsessed and forgets that many of us don’t have a comprehensive bus system, I have no choice but drive to work, plus buses are £££ compared to driving in rural areas. On the upside finally our bus rover tickets will cover all bus companies so we can actually get to the hospital (return) for £7.20 rather then £12 per person currently

WallowingInMud · 18/08/2026 22:44

Properly organised buses are great. Bus hopper fares (did I mention one fare and as many buses as you like within an hour plus a secret ten minutes) are even greater.

Its just not very prime ministerial.. next week I anticipate multiple iterations of short form video of him hopping from regional bus to regional bus whilst lip syncing to an upbeat, middle of the road, popular tune.

Tell me more about the big stuff Andy. Also spend less time on your socials.

At least he has made a difference to some lives already. Disabled people able to use the bus all day. We've heard all the big promises and what has become of them? HS2, stopping the boats, etc. Politics of last 25 years seems to have been about filling party donors pockets with money or making sure you have all the privileges. Brexit? We were lied to, quite brazenly it seems and it's not stopping. So if Andy can make some small changes and progress to bigger issues I'll take that to Trump starting wars he can't finish or even negotiate and enriching himself and his family by any means possible

100% agree, the man is obsessed with public transport

A nations public transport is big stuff

Specifically buses. He even had a little toy one in one of the more recent reels I ‘enjoyed’ in my fruitless search for government that governs.

After a good few years of campaigning we have now got a limited bus service..woohoo. it is a 9 month trial. Fingers crossed it is extended and more times added. Have to say ime( have lived in a fair few parts of the country) the rural parts of the Midlands are neglected in many areas. Lack of Public Transport being a major issue.

RedFatball · 18/08/2026 22:51

I don't know if it's a Burnham policy but our local buses are free for children all summer and my 13yo DD has discovered she is, in fact, able to get herself around without needing a lift everywhere... it's been brilliant!

WallowingInMud · 18/08/2026 22:53

My issue is not with improvement in public transport. It’s important stuff and as someone who enjoys the luxury of an incredible public transport system that includes the bus hopper fare* I know my privilege.

it is with the almost 💯 focus on it delivered via social media. Sometimes including little toy buses.

*one fare, as many buses as I like within an hour plus a secret ten minutes.

He doesn’t post his own content… he has a big team and he’s currently hiring more. He does need to shoot video but he does that once, it’s quick and efficient and it’s then recut and repurposed. You can get a lot of content in even 10 minutes.

@RedFatball Yes, that’s a Burnham policy Free for kids until the end of the month.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 18/08/2026 22:54

It's your algorithms. He isn't perpetually making statements about buses. Google thinks you like Andy Burnham and buses. Could be worse, at least it isn't Trump and monster trucks.

RedFatball · 18/08/2026 22:55

@LittlePetitePsychopath amazing. I will be paying a lot of bus fares come September... but not giving lifts and I am HERE for that.

But I do like Andy. I do like buses.

I am nothing if not thorough and I have reviewed the videos on his profile (rather than just waited for them to be delivered via Mr Algo) and a large percentage are about buses.

Fact

Ah well op. I haven't seen any of his social media posts. I don't think I will seek them out out either. Hopefully he( his team) will talk about other things too. Am sure they will!

Wolffie17 · 18/08/2026 23:01

I guess it’s easy wins isn’t it. He’s wanting to make actual rapid change and it’s an easy place to start. Hopefully he’ll tackle bigger issues when recess is over but he’s doing what he can for now. Personally I find it refreshing to have some good news for a change.

The extra ten minutes was abolished in London a few years ago. It's still great value though.

Ablondiebutagoody · 18/08/2026 23:09

Why deal with the defence budget, or welfare or illegal immigration, or the economy, when you can twat about with bus fares? I guess that's the problem with promoting a provincial mayor to be prime minister.

No way??? Extra 10 mins? I have often walked when I won’t tap in for return 10 min journey in under 60 mins.
i like to challenge myself to fitting in at least a bus and library and supermarket before return bus in the hour. Ah fun times!

Agapornis · 18/08/2026 23:23

At least he won't be accused of not communicating enough...
