Help me settle a disagreement. Aibu to think I don’t have to adjust my body clock just because I’m on holiday in Greece?

On holiday in Greece (Greek Island) with dh and ds.

It’s two hours ahead here in Greece compared with the UK. We arrived late on the first day after an evening flight.

We’ve been going to bed at around midnight-12.30 and waking up at around 8.30-9.00am.

Dh keeps commenting about the time. He’s just said we are tired because we are going to bed late and getting up late.

I pointed out that if we were still in the UK we’d be going to sleep around 10-10.30 and waking up at 6.30-7am which is perfectly normal for us. My body clock doesn’t it adjust because I’ve been in Greece for a few days.

He keeps constantly trying to rush me along onto the next thing and being really disapproving of me going to sleep at midnight even though my body doesn’t bloody well know it’s midnight because we are two hours ahead.

Theres no particular reason for the rush. Breakfast is served until 11am and there is lunch and food available all day.

If he wants to go to bed whenever then his choice? But do what you want. We always stay on UK time when away in Europe so do everything later: easier when you come back then.

It's a holiday, not an expedition. You are there to relax; get up when you like and go to bed when you like.

This is why I love Greece, the kids “sleep in” until 8 and think they’re going to bed at 10!

Does he want to do active things before it gets too hot in the morning? (Like bike rides etc that would be better 8am-10am than 10am-12noon) if so, can he crack on get up and go and you and ds have a lazy morning?

if your holiday plans are “play in the pool, eat in hotel restaurant, build epic sandcastle” I see no benefit in moving to Greek time. If its site seeing and sports then yes, being up and active before the morning gets too hot is sensible.

He sounds really annoying. If you are having a leisurely day does it really matter if you get up later. I could understand if you were going visiting tourists sites which are more pleasant to visit when it is cooler and quieter.

Otherwise I would in no uncertain terms to stop commenting on your sleep pattern.

Is this a new marriage and your first holiday?

I could see it might be an issue if so but if not surely you knew this before you went and you don't need to be in each others pockets every day, why does either of you need to change because the other has a different view?

I stayed on UK time when I went to the Caribbean 😂 meant I was waking up at 4-5am and going to bed 8-9pm but the ‘entertainment’ in the evening was crap so wasn’t missing out on anything. Made readjusting when home much easier.

I live in Greece; trust me, you are on Greek time 🙂 enjoy your holidays at your own pace

No he doesn’t want to do active things early in the morning. He doesn’t want to do anything at all. It’s wake up, breakfast, pool/beach etc. There are no sunbed issues.

Thats exactly what raised it because I suggested we could go somewhere tomorrow and he said he’s too tired because we are going to bed late and getting up late.

No it’s not our first holiday we’ve been married for almost 20 years but I don’t recall this ever coming up before.

Hes just getting on my nerves because he keeps trying to rush me when there’s absolutely nothing to rush for. He keeps telling me it’s time for bed and I’m saying look I’m not tired. You go to sleep if you want to.
