AIBU to worry I have damaged the hob with a saucepan?

Shamelessly posting here for traffic. I am staying in accommodation, cooked pasta using this large saucepan and I have just noticed while cleaning up that the inside of the hob ring is white? Can't get it off - have tried a brillo pad but it's not working?!
Showing the underside of the saucepan for reference. I don't even think any water spilled over as the pan is massive.

You need Cif cream cleanser or Hobrite or a non scratch sponge ,wipe it off then buff with a paper towel.

I'm wincing at using a brilliant pad!!!

A brillo pad on an induction hob?

Can't think why that wouldn't be a good idea...

AgathaX · 17/08/2026 22:04

Is that a ceramic or induction hob? It probably wanted the correct cleaner and a soft cloth. Using a brillo will have scratched the ceramic now, you won't be able to fix that. It looks like the wrong sort of pan to use on a ceramic hob in the first place though. Is this what they supplied for the hob, or one of yours?

Fredflinstoneswife1 · 17/08/2026 22:13

The mark was on it before I touched it, so it has nothing to do with the brillo. Maybe it isnt even a brillo - im not sure what you call it. Using a soft cloth didn't remove it and there is no cream cleaner here.

The pan belongs to the house. I used it on a different ring and this did not happen?!?!?!

I know you don't want to hear it op but you can't beat the traditional gas flame, you know where you stand with it. All this induction and ceramic is more trouble then it's worth

Whosthetabbynow · 17/08/2026 22:21

Hobrite and a soft scourer will shift it with a bit of elbow grease. My pans do this too.

Well I agree. It's hard to beat the flame.

I'll try hobrite. Thank you

Err... op clearly stated "staying in accommodation"...they didn't choose the hob.

Well she could have brought her own!
Do you seriously go on holiday without your hob?
And don't get me started on kitchen sinks!

I mean, this isn’t even correct - I thought I couldn’t live without a gas hob (very keen cook) but now have induction and would never ever go back. It’s amazing.

You just have to take a little more care with induction: it’s not rocket science.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/08/2026 22:38

I once melted one of those trays with the soft bit on the underneath on an induction hob. It was still hot and I put the tray on it. I used a spatula to scrape it and baking soda and vinegar.

CoffeeBotherer · 17/08/2026 22:44

Once you've cleaned it, if you're worried about scratching it etc, look into getting an induction hob protector mat. They're only about £20. We've had our hob for 5 years and it gets used every day, but it still looks brand new.

Wrong! Especially "knowing where you stand with it". A flame is much more variable than a numerical value on an induction.

johnstownflood · 17/08/2026 22:49

Don’t need a special protector, just put a sheet of kitchen towel between the pan and the hob . I was told this when it was installed six years ago and still looks like new.
