Is there much worse, as a woman, than a man being aggressive to you when you’re asleep in bed?

As in, you’re asleep in bed and a man enters the room aggressively and shouting? I think it’s when I’ve felt most vulnerable. Particularly if I’m undressed too.

I wish they knew how it feels.

It's a horrible feeling, I have had this. You need to end the relationship. It is also a way to deprive you of sleep, and he does know how awful it is. Thats why he is doing it, because he wants you to know he has rhe power, and he wants to control you.

B1anche · 16/08/2026 21:41

It's not something I've experienced, but it sounds awful. Is this something you have to put up with regularly? Hope you're ok

Incredulousaboutlife · 16/08/2026 21:41

So sorry OP that you have experienced this.

Unfortunately I think they have a pretty good idea of how frightening it is. That's why they do it: to bully and intimidate.

I dislike any aggression from men, it really sets me on edge, even a small amount of aggression. Yes, this would make me feel vulnerable.

If they don't have a right to your house can you call the police to remove them. Or is this a partner who owns the property,

whippersnapper55 · 17/08/2026 00:37

I've never experienced this in 36 years of marriage. I think any aggression from any man is unacceptable at any time and I would leave. Don't stay with a man who does this - he knows he is intimidating you when you're vulnerable, that's why he does it. He actually wants you to feel scared. Why would you stay with someone who does that?

Scarydinosaurs · 17/08/2026 05:46

I’ve had an ex do this. And one who I didn’t actually live with so sometimes would wake up and he was in my house unexpectedly (I lived with others who had either let him in or the back door was open). I still feel so upset about it now. I put up with it for too long. For years after I felt scared and worried.

jeaux90 · 17/08/2026 06:34

I divorced for this reason. He would wake me up shouting if he couldn’t find something whilst preparing for next day which he could have done earlier.

Wallywobbles · 17/08/2026 06:36

It was when I saw a divorce lawyer.

My DH did this once so I went and got in bed with one of the kids and he came in and punched me in the face . He hadn’t hit me before . Thankfully my daughter didn’t see. It was the night before we were going away for a “second honeymoon” type holiday . I didn’t know he was having an affair with my friend . We split up a few months later . It was very scary . I agree you feel more vulnerable in bed .

Brassknucks · 17/08/2026 07:36

My father would do this to my mother, he’d beat her so horrifically that she’d often crawl into my bed, I would have been under 4 years old and remember him dragging her out of my bed by her hair.

Im still so traumatised that if a man did that to me I think I’d poison him.

Almost always, this will escalate into violence.

SunnyRedSnail · 17/08/2026 07:38

Its not something I've experienced and nor is if something I'd tolerate.

If a man did that to me it would be relationship over.
