To quietly get rid of kinetic sand gifts?

My daughter got 2 sets of kinetic sand for her birthday but so many of these have turned out to contain asbestos that I'm tempted to just hide them away and hope she forgets about them?

Am I being paranoid?

Is there any way I can check for certain which sets are safe? I'm assuming that any that haven't been recalled could still contain asbestos but no one's tested them yet.

I feel bad towards the kind gift-givers and normally we're pretty relaxed but this freaks me out and obviously safety comes above politeness.

I didn’t know some brands contain asbestos:( we had several months of play out of one kit recently but I don’t want to buy it again for some time, no matter how much I tried it ended up everywhere of course.

now 2 days ago my mom bought my kids 1 litre of slime in TK Maxx and I’m about to lose my mind 😪

Is your mum trying to get revenge on you for some heinous thing? Did you push plasticine into her carpets or something like that? Not saying I did that I did though

We never had Kinetic Sand or slime but my DS used to stick PlayDoh on his wooden train pieces and stained the wood. I wouldn't mind but... whyyyyyyy... (I've given away the unstained pieces but still have a quantity with blots on stashed away)

I am at the stage of parenting now that when people buy my kids things that I don't want to deal with I chuck in the bin before we even get in the house. So yeah. Just throw them out. Kids have enough stuff without sand, glitter slime, and 10000 piece bracelet sets or whatever. It may have asbestos, it may not, you can't test it and you're still the fucker hoovering it up.

Same. We don’t do kinetic sand, slime or bead things. They can play with that at school or someone else’s house. I don’t feel bad, they have plenty of other stuff

I much prefer kinetic sand over play doh. We've had the one kit for years, it doesn't dry out and hoovers up easily. DDs love it, even the 9yo.

a close friend once gave DC1 some of that stuff, birthday gift, I couldn’t face the mess, so I hid it then snuck it to a charity shop not too close to home! No regrets!
