I was in a car accident today, first time ever I was driven into the back of. Is it right that the insurance company say I still have to pay excess and I’ll loose my 20+ years no claims 😢

Who’s fault was the accident?

You'll need to pay it initially and lose your no claims if you claim off your own insurance, however, if the accident was not your fault, your insurance can recover the costs of your repairs from the at-fault party's insurers and then your no-claims should be reinstated. You can also recover your excess from the other party's insurers too.

The guy drove in to the back on me, so his. Insurance email agrees it’s his fault but still says I’ll loose no claims and pay excess.

Thanks that’s helpful not sure why the email doesn’t say that.

Yes, because at this stage no one knows who is at fault...btw you should buy no claims protection so even if it's your fault you're safe.

When the claim is sorted, you should get your NCD reinstated and xs back from their insurance company if it isn't your fault.

It's a no claims discount not a no blame discount.

I’ve had no claims protection previously think I must have missed it this time somehow and a stupid high excess to try and bring costs down 🙄. I have accident assist with my car finance so I’ll see on Monday what they can do it help too.

Accident assist should sort...hit from behind completely the third part to blame (what if a child had run in front of you jada, Jada) but you have to pay the xs upfront and claim it back

Oh well that’ll be one for the credit card!

It took 8 months for my insurance company to confirm 'no fault', refund my excess and reinstate my no claims when a driver hit me even though I was stationary and they were on the wrong side of the road. In the meantime my insurance came up for renewal and, legally, it has to be declared as an outstanding claim.
