If money were no object, what would you do in retirement?

What would be the one thing you would do when you retire if money was no object? Either an experience or something you look forward to doing regularly
I am likely retiring early in my 50's & I am restricted in my options due to being a full time carer and have considered all sorts of things from holiday homes to allotments most of which won't be possible with my young adult - I have also considered moving as I grew up near the sea & love it.
This is kind of a wishes & dreams question for a quiet Friday Evening so put it in AIBU

We retired nearly five years ago. I wouldn't say money is no object, we are not that well off! But we have significant savings and decent pension provision. We are also aware that any travel we do, it is most likely that it will be in the next ten years. We are mid to late 60s.

So we have been doing a few more adventurous long-haul trips while we still can. Having great fun actually!

I'd buy a really nice house with a swimming pool and easy access to the 'great outdoors'.

I'd travel in the crappy March/April May months and November/December. Mostly to Europe/Australia.

I would divide my time as follows:

Spring-travelling in southern Europe
Summer-travelling in Scandinavia and northern Europe
Autumn-I would spend September and October in the UK
November to February-long haul travelling, especially in South America

Pay off my daughter’s, niece and nephews houses and nephews med school loans. Shop and travel and pay for my friends and sisters to go with me. Read.

I would buy a huge American style motorhome and go travelling.

I would sign up to do a masters in creative writing at goldsmiths and commute to London weekly from the north staying in different fancy hotels

I plan to buy a camper van and travel. Hopefully my two teens will be at uni and I can f’off. 🥳

Buy a lovely little house with a nice garden for sitting out. Have a new little car as I always have bangers. Have a gardener and cleaner. Travel a lot in style with friends and family. Study, volunteer and go out for lunch or dinner with friends. Help my family out where I can .

I would sail around the world. Obviously with money being no object I'd have to pay a skipper because I've only ever been in a 2 man rubber dinghy 🤣

@Retiringplans if you're in the north east and want to be by the sea why not move to Seaham, Blackhall or Seaton carew? Blackhall rocks is nice with cheap accommodation. Horden has a great train station. There's actually some nice places to live in Horden. The run down parts give it a bad rap.

I discovered cruising recently, and was amazed by how much I enjoyed it. I'd definitely do a lot of it in retirement if money (and environmental concerns) were no object.

In-between cruises, I'd have a house by a dog friendly beach for long daily dog walks.

I quite fancy spending 3-4 months in a country, immersing myself in the language and culture, then moving onto another country. A bit like Eat Pray Love, but with 1st class flights and luxury boutique villas. No backpacking and hostels for me! 😀

This. Plus renting a beautiful home if I was staying in one location. Travel to Japan? I would hire a guide to take us around and translate. I'd try to see as much of the world as I could with my daughter. Antarctica, Etna (from a safe distance) etc

I love the variety of people's responses.
We are lucky enough to be in that position.
We do travel (off to Armenia soon) but have a small caravan and love taking it round the UK.
We play in a band.
I procrastinate endlessly about writing a novel.
Go to church (important for both of us)
Look after gc and my mum
Try and be useful.

I would set-up a free at the point of access SEND legal hub in every UK local authority, giving free legal advice & representation to SEND parents to help them gain adequate & appropriate education for their children.
Obviously, if money were truly no object this would also involve setting up & maintaining alternative schools, which would probably take me beyond my grave, but it’s a dream scenario.

Travel for me too. Not bothered about luxury, I prefer a bit of adventure. I'm doing some of it Galapagos in November, Nepal trek next spring but my bucket list of things to do/places to see is a lot, lot longer than my budget.
I'd get another horse too. Lost mine 3 months ago and I'm done with livery yards but if I could have my own place and afford cover while I'm away I'd get another like a shot. Just for hacking out, I miss early morning rides

We love our home so much, so we wouldn't move. But I would like a cleaner, I would visit family much more often. I was going to say I wouldn't travel, but if I could spend stupid money on it for real comfort then I probably would - I can't currently afford nicer accommodation than I have at home. I would like to go to galleries more often, and to modern ballet, to public lectures on science and philosophy, but I don't live near these kinds of things and it's the travel that's off putting, so a driver would be amazing. Ooh, I'd have aircon installed and stay indoors in summer!

Oh! I also want to learn to play piano.

Despite severe dyspraxia and living in a tiny cottage with no room for a practice piano.

Travel the world, first class all the way.

Probably sound a bit wanky but I’d give money away and do good works. Nothing more rewarding and so many young people would get more from my help than I would by flying around first class and staying in hotels.

I’ve already done everything I really wanted to do though. Loads of travelling. I would keep enough for a house with a garden somewhere in Surrey and enough to potter about without worrying about money.

I love Norfolk but the north east also has some beautiful places where this could be possible, why would it be better in Norfolk?

Having read your comment about your late husbands family, and their lack of support, i certainly wouldn't be too concerned about moving away. They could always stay in one of your Norfolk holiday lets

I'm loving different people's ideas.
There are other factors in my life that mean a move is really not an option right now but I think it's good to dream & that sometimes those dreams lead to other ideas that you might be able to do.
I am hoping to get some weekends away in the future (if i can get them settled with social care) Girona is one place I would like to see

travel as much as possible, do some courses for interest.
