Will Luigi Mangione get life then?

As fun as the whole 'eat the rich' stuff was, he's going down. But it doesn't seem like he will get life

He's plead guilty to 'federal crimes' but not guilty to murder at state level. The lawyers want the state charges dropped, for double jeopardy

Its worth noting he himself is hugely privileged

If you, a normie, goes around killing private health care CEOs, you will rot at her majesty's pleasure.

What does (did?!) her Maj have to do with the US justice system?

They fought a war over that, you know 🫣

MojoMoon · 14/08/2026 17:00

Why doesn't it seem like he will get a life sentence?

If you mean "held in prison until he dies however long that is", even in the US, few people get that sentence for a single murder.

i read that his lawyers are trying to get the case thrown out because of a “double jeopardy” loophole. I think the chances of this are minute though.

SilenceInside · 14/08/2026 17:06

He will be sentenced for the federal charges though, so he won't be escaping prison or justice, such as it is in the US.

The maximum sentence for the federal charges is life in prison, so it is a possibility. It was premeditated and he isn't claiming any mitigation, so it's certainly a possibility that he may get the maximum sentence.

whoremembers · 14/08/2026 17:13

The bbc says he gave a long speech before stating that he shot the ceo

So would think that will be the mitigation

I mean, the guy is obviously mentally ill.

I think he needs to go down for life, but i do wonder whether he actually will.

If I were him, I would want the death penalty why would you want life anyway 🤷‍♀️

Her Majesty? The Queen is dead and Luigi is in America.

Snoutywoofs · 14/08/2026 17:22

I don’t think he’s mentally ill at all.

I think his actions were fucking risky and misjudged, but he killed a terrible man who was basically a corporate super villain wife beater.

If anything my opinion is he took a stand to make the world a better place. However, murdering people - even evil terrible people - is illegal. Shame he didn’t plan it better tbh.

Thats quite a difference!

SilenceInside · 14/08/2026 17:27

@Snoutywoofs where are you seeing information that the victim was a "wife beater"? Even if he was a "corporate super villain" do you really want a society where anyone with a weapon can hand out their own summary "justice" based on their own grievances without any kind of due process? Really??

whoremembers · 14/08/2026 17:29

Ffs bbc. Giving a very uninformed article 🙄🙄

Here is Luigi's mitigation

A lot of people are enjoying the sexy vigilante aspect of it, as far as I can tell

whoremembers · 14/08/2026 17:32

Thats quite a difference!

He's playing games; by pleading guilty to the lesser federal charges he's trying to get the state second degree murder charge dropped because of the double jeopardy rule. Hope the evil bastard rots in a cell for the rest of his life.

It's possible to be mentally ill and have complete control and culpability for your actions. I think he is mentally ill, he killed a man he doesn't even know over health insurance. He's clearly driven by some manic mistaken belief that he can enact social change by this act, a 'greater good', he's a nutter.

I think that the whole thing is a terrible shame, for him and his victim. We all know what a shit-show american healthcare is, i can see how it could drive someone into a manic state where they do something stupid like this, but there still need to be consequenses. I wouldn't be one of the ones baying for whole life term or death penalty tho, save that for the real psyco monsters in society.

ExtraOnions · 14/08/2026 17:44

Shame the people who run the healthcare schemes in the US can’t be tried for the unecessary pain and death that they have caused, with thier flawed algorithms, wrong diagnosis via AI, and poor decison making.

Healthcare for profit is always going to lead to vulnerable people dying of preventable illnesses.

The CEOs are the ones who should be tried for manslaughter

This. I’m not losing sleeping over a man that got rich through the deaths of many people.

Course they are.
Classic cases of Hybristophilia.

If he'd been ugly the responses would be different.

I'm not pulling this from thin air.
Ted Bundy-who arguably did far, far worse than him in my opinion- had female fans.

People have done worse than Mangioni and I don't think a death sentence is appropriate however a cold, calculated murder deserves a long time in jail.
This guy did not abuse him personally or kill a loved one of his there was no personal element to it.

But he's dishy so he's a f*ing hero.
I wish these women would just own it.

As much as you cant just gun someone down

I am not mourning. That said, I am not celebrating either

Its a sorry mess

I am very much interested in the outcome though

Agree that if he were ugly, he wouldn't have a shot at this. Also if he were not privileged.
