AIBU to think 17 years each seems too lenient here?

Honeytrap thieves jailed for killing men they had drugged - BBC News https://share.google/gaRt4scZ5voYPwhZC

Just reading this article. It's the first I've heard of it. Both these victims were married men.

The perpetrators only got 17 years each for this.

I am reporting you for slander.

I can see your very obvious agenda from outer space, you need to be more stealthy.

I don't have an agenda, I just have opinions.

Think you mean libel.

.......no, of course there's no correlation between racism and intelligence, why would anyone suggest it?

Digerydont · 13/08/2026 23:53

According to Apercu
Yes, in the United States, if someone drugs a victim to rob them and the victim dies, that person would legally be charged with murder. Under the laws of almost every US state and federal jurisdiction, this specific scenario triggers the Felony Murder Rule or constitutes First-Degree Murder by Poisoning. It does not matter if the offender never intended for the victim to die; the intent to commit the robbery and the intentional act of administering the drug are legally sufficient to sustain a murder conviction. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

So why weren't these 2 charged with murder. How can UK law be so soft?

Why else were they only charged with manslaughter?

Why else were they only charged with manslaughter?

What do you mean "why else"?

Because the (UK) law was being followed. What's your "why else"?

They drugged their victims, and then they died, how isn't that murder? 2 tier justice once again. Burnham's Britain.

Isn’t it mad how so often the people with no idea voice their opinion loudest.

“Burnham’s Britain”, he’s been the PM for almost no time at all.

You also have some strong opinions on the law despite not knowing the basics.

I feel for the young lad who’s lost his parent in such sordid circumstances. The playground gossip will be brutal. I hope he has good people around him.

There is no deterrent. It’s crazy. Laws need an overhaul. They will be out in 12 if even.

You don’t think 12 years in jail is bad enough to be a deterrent? A lot of people (quite rightly) struggled to be locked down in their own homes for 12 weeks during the pandemic. In considerable better conditions than prisons in many cases.

17years seems like a reasonable sentence. I assume it’s within the sentencing guidelines. As does this being manslaughter rather than murder. I’m not sure why the fact they were married should make a difference to the sentence.

God I’ve read it all now. Laughable. Perhaps quaint yourself with the law.

Murderers should get full life terms, unless there are extenuating circumstances, i.E. mental health issues. They need to understand that society is doing them a big favour by not hanging them, and be appropriately grateful.

That's some favour. I'd much rather be hanged than incarcerated for the rest of my life.

No, the fact they were married men shouldn't make any difference to the sentence. It's unduly lenient. I do however feel very sorry for the men's families who are having more pain heaped on them by the fact their husband/family member was searching for prostitutes.

Yes, I genuinely feel for the widows. Especially the young mother - hopefully she will find happiness with a guy who thinks that procuring women for sex is abhorrent, if and when she is ready to meet someone.
