Buying replica guns for dd 14

naturallynotfunny813 · 13/08/2026 10:11

Would you buy or allow your dc a replica gun?

For context this is about dd 14 who is well behaved with no issues and it would be put on a shelf as a collection.

ive linked to the kind im talking about

No

Here is a thing OP. Did you look at the website you posted up. It says right there on page 1. You can't buy these ones pictured without a license.

U.K law prohibits the general sale of realistic imitation guns, however, we can sell and supply ’Black Guns’ to official bodies including:-

  • The Military, Police and Security Forces.
  • Film, Theatre and TV companies.
  • Re-Enactment/Living history members.
  • Museums.
  • Overseas Customers.

They also have coloured replicas. These are brightly coloured so it is clear they are replicas.

we cannot sell or supply ’Black Guns’, only coloured ones, to:

  • Military Contractors.
  • Collectors.
  • Enthusiasts.
  • Fancy Dressers.
  • Schools.
  • Theme Companies.
  • Advertising Agencies.
  • Pub and Restaurants Fitters.
  • Amusement Arcades.
If you fall within any of the above categories we can supply you with post 1869 guns finished in a bright colour.

So the answer to your question is right there on the website you linked.

Pre 1869 you are ok. That will be flintlocks and the like.

wandawaves · 13/08/2026 11:35

No.

Why on earth does she even want one?
It's a bit... weird.

smallglassbottle · 13/08/2026 11:36

We have some decommissioned antique rifles. Ds belongs to an airsoft club and has some airsoft guns as well. They fire pellets, not bullets. None of us have become homicidal maniacs as far as I'm aware.

Lentilcakes · 13/08/2026 11:43

No way!

naturallynotfunny813 · 13/08/2026 11:52

It is part of a ww1 and 2 collection. We have a shop semi close where she normally buys her stuff from. They also sell replica guns and swords from the various wars. Which is why she wants. The legal side is interesting as the owner of the shop told me it would need to be brought under my name and my details taken with id. We stay in Scotland for anyone asking

I would be strongly discouraging the fetishisation of items relating to warfare.

Great to have an interest in military history, and much to be encouraged, but there is no need for a child (or anyone, in fact) to possess actual items relating to warfare, especially weaponry, as part of that interest. Not a healthy outlet for energy and interest.

And I say that as a collector of antiques and an historian.

DorsetMermaid · 13/08/2026 12:01

No.
My husband was in a shop when two young teenagers came in with a gun 'for fun'. It was only a replica but the situation wasn't fun, especially for the poor girl behind the counter.

Shesafancyflapjack · 13/08/2026 12:09

it is illegal for a shop to sell a replica firearm to an under 18 year old, and therefore illegal for a minor to own one. By facilitating this you would be breaking the law, any reputable gun shop would be advising this. I’m not sure why you have sought the opinions of mumsnet users in this matter?

Dollymylove · 13/08/2026 12:22

Nope

MeridianB · 13/08/2026 12:25

Not in a million years.

And she’s at risk of being surrounded by armed police if she talks about/shows/carries them.

weavingrugs · 13/08/2026 12:25

@naturallynotfunny813
It would be a hard no from me.
Are you a ND family by the way?
Not that it makes a difference because it would obviously be a no from me regardless, but possibly the illegality of the purchase might be enough to postpone the idea till she is an adult.

CurlewKate · 13/08/2026 10:12

No.

Nothing to add.

Eeyorefan · 13/08/2026 12:32

No. However my similar aged dd was doing archery and air rifle firing at organised scouting events at that age. Would archery or target shooting lessons at an appropriate centre be possible instead

FlyingBeGoat · 13/08/2026 14:28

Of course not - if it ever gets taken outside you are looking at a immediate arrest and charges

also illegal for anyone under 18 to possess a replica firearm

It would have to be in your name because you have to be over 18 to buy/own one

Context would have been helpful earlier in the thread. So she collects war memorabilia or just weapon collections?

Is she autistic?

What else does she have in the collection?

Is the replica in accordance with the period of history she is interested in

Personally I cannot abide all this war type collection/samarai sword display type thing, I think its ugly and a bit chavvy, its very male, but people have responded without checking out the facts of the context here, becuase you didnt give much context

GettingFestiveNow · 14/08/2026 07:21

WW1/WW2? I can't not ask - does your home contain any Nazi/blackshirt memorabilia?

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/08/2026 07:32

Is this for real? Absolutely not. She needs new interests/hobbies!

Just because a girl has a different hobby doesn't make her autistic

allgoodhere783 · 14/08/2026 17:40

It's kinda cool.... and they're not real. But I'm a tomboy and like mechanical things, models, so.... my only issues is they're expensive!! I personally wouldn't cos she can wait until she's older and spend her own money and collectables.

Some people have them as reminders of the realities and horrors these things can do - for those who don't approve.

menopausalmare · 14/08/2026 17:42

Don't be daft. The police came to our school and took our starter pistols, following a gun amnesty, about 15 years ago. Fake guns scare people.
