Worried sick. Dd looked at eclipse for a couple of seconds. Now has pale blue spot in vision.

Visit to optician maybe?

EmmaOvary · 13/08/2026 20:48

I read today that opticians can check for serious eye damage, I’d go to the nearest one for that. Hopefully it’s just short term damage.

When it’s your child you really can go into panic mode. The solar eclipse can damage your vision but depending on the extent of the damage it can potentially improve. It is not an emergency but urgent (as there is no treatment that can aid recovery).

Book an urgent appointment with the opticians and they can do an OCT scan (children are free under the nhs). However if there isn’t any availability you should be able to get her an urgent appointment under “minor eye conditions service” and you can search for opticians local to you that keep same day appointments for this type of situation.

Wishing your daughter the best hope her symptoms improve.

It’s no different to briefly looking at the sun any other time, which I’m sure she’s done loads.

Thank you everyone. Seems fine now
