I’m early 40s and am very interested to know what daily supplements people take/would recommend?

Creatine. Nothing else needed. Get everything from my food

JacknDiane · 12/08/2026 08:23

Multi vit, magnesium, vit d, iron

OutOfTheOtherSide · 12/08/2026 08:28

None. I prefer a balanced diet than processed stuff.

If you're eating properly, you don't need supplements. If you're taking them, unless you have a medical diagnosis that requires a special diet, you are simply a marketers dream and wasting your money.

Have you noticed any difference since taking it?

I currently take collagen, started about 6 months ago and it’s made a huge difference to my skin, I used to have a very oily forehead and it’s cleared it right up.

I totally get what you’re saying about a healthy diet and agree. I just wondered if there’s anything additional that could help.

For medical reasons I cannot take any supplements but I get monthly full blood work and so I know that my diet provides everything I need. But I have started eating pasture raised and organic food and I only drink filtered water.

echt · 12/08/2026 09:29

I'm in my 70s and like other decently-fed humans don't take supplements unless a medical professional says so, based on blood tests.
In my mind's eye, I can see my rheumatologist nodding emphatically when I said this the other day.

SunshineAndFizz · 12/08/2026 19:33

Happy for those not taking anything if that works for you - genuinely would love to hear from those that do take things.

Iron, multi vit. Vit D, beetroot, psyllium husks, zinc, omega oils.

Rayanello · 12/08/2026 19:44

Magnesium, vitamin d and iron. Magnesium has really helped my sleep.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/08/2026 19:44

Rheumatologist recommended. I've been on multiple medications for PsA, EDS and enthesitis for years and just don't absorb sufficiently from food due to coeliac.

4000IU Vit D + K2 (had severe deficiency but GP refused to engage with Rheumatology)
Multivitamin (B9 deficiency, anaemia, etc - was prescribed high dose folic acid first so this is for maintenance)
Magnesium
Calcium (don't really do dairy).

Creatine and collagen - physio also recommended, but Rheumatologist brought it up first.

RaraRachael · 12/08/2026 19:45

Nothing. I tried various things but they either upset my stomach od I felt no difference.

StStephensTower · 12/08/2026 19:45

BlueBellsArePretty · 12/08/2026 19:46

Wofflewaffle · 12/08/2026 19:49

Magnesium for sleep, but no idea if it works.

that’s it.

PolkaDotPorridge · 12/08/2026 19:51

Creatine
NMN
Turmeric
B12
Magnesium at night occasionally

moonraker0 · 12/08/2026 19:53

Magnesium glycinate
Biotin
D-mannose (swear by this to keep uti’s at bay)
Vitamin C
Vitamin B5
Vitamin B6
I mostly take them to help reduce cortisol levels.
Not a vitamin but I take wild dose to get rid of the perimenopause bloat as well when I need it.

Honestly? Not really but I still take it. Been taking it for about a year

needastrongone · 12/08/2026 19:57

Magnesium, although I’ve run out and haven’t noticed a difference in truth, vitamin D plus K2 in the winter. I’ve a tub of creatine in the cupboard but I rarely remember to take it and I’m pretty fastidious re resistance training, which is the main lever re building/maintaining muscle anyway.

I’d say we have an excellent diet 90 percent of the time, but life has to be for living too.

Cutting out the alcohol has solved my sleep problem.

ToadRage · 12/08/2026 20:02

I am nearly 40. I take a muiltivitamin plus extra vit C, vit D, and glucosamine. I am presribed Nortriptyline for pain relief.
