It's not the end of the world but it just isn't the way I work. I'm in an office-based role in frontline supervision, and it's a mainly open-plan office but the 2 senior managers have their own offices right next to us.
They keep their doors open, and it might be because I sit by them but I feel like a lot of colleagues can't get through the day without giving a minute-by-minute update of everything they've done to the management.
I'm sure a lot of it could be condensed into an email. They're out of their seats pretty much every second 'Right I've just spoken to X' 'Right I've just had X on the phone'.
Constantly going in and shutting the door, I'm wondering what all these hushed discussions are.
It makes me not want to be a manager as I don't know if I'd cope with someone in my office every second feeling they have to give me a verbal list of every single action. They might as well announce they've just been to the toilet.
Equally if the manager expects this that concerns me too. I prefer to just get on with work and update if necessary/relevant.
