To think that Avery Lane is not a real shopping outlet?

I suspect this is a fake shop front/not what it purports to be. The address is a hotel irl, although apparently they're moving... The photo of the shop is not a photo of the actual address. None of the policies on the website references a registered company name, well not one registered in England Wales, just "Avery Lane Brighton". This is not a company registered with Companies House. The phone number is fake. Just googling an item as described on the website brings up numerous sellers online selling the same thing. The reviews are either crap or gushing. I wouldn't part with my money if I were you.

A quick Google of whether it's a legit business brings up a slew of YouTube videos exposing it as a scam. If you want to order, I suggest you use an AI tool to find a similar item on a reputable marketplace where your consumer rights are properly protected, e.g. Amazon.

There are lots of websites that look just like this. I think they all use the same template. They are Chinese companies sellling shoddy stuff and purporting to be UK boutiques. Alwaya check Trustpilot.

I agree - some of the things I have mentioned in my post and things to check for before you go ahead and order. @Catlover465 contact your bank or credit card provider to see what you can do.

About a month ago there was a long thread on these companies. They are pretty formulaic in their names, their back story and their websites.

I have been conned by a company purporting to be based in Brighton. Avery Lane. I bought two dresses that looked good online. They took weeks and weeks to send (I suspect they came from the far east somewhere). Eventually they arrived. I ordered 'small' I got something that just didn't fit anywhere - it looked awful. I tried to return it and asked which address to send it to. I gradually realized what had happened and that I'd lost about £67. They kept sending me messages asking me to take my measurements and photos of the dresses .I told them I didn't want to waste any more time. Now I am sure the whole thing is a scam and I should have known better
I'll be more careful next time.

If what you ordered is not what turns up and you paid by credit card, raise a dispute through the credit card company.

Please be very careful before ordering from Avery Lane Brighton.
I ordered a pair of lovely-looking “orthopaedic” shoes and was also unwittingly charged a £4.95 insurance fee, bringing my total to £44.90.
The shoes took nearly three weeks to arrive. During that time, I received numerous tracking emails — and, incredibly, repeated offers of a 50% refund if I left a positive review before I had even received the shoes.
When they finally arrived, they were nothing like I expected from the advertisement. They came in a small plastic bag with no box, smelled overwhelmingly of chemicals/glue, and the quality was dreadful — honestly, the kind of shoes I would expect to see for a few pounds on a budget marketplace.
I contacted Avery Lane and was asked to provide photographs. I did so, only to receive essentially the same request again. When I insisted on a full refund, I was offered 15% to keep the shoes.
Yes — 15% for receiving poor-quality shoes, despite being offered 50% simply for leaving a positive review.
I declined and told them I would open a case with PayPal. I was then quickly offered 50% as a “final resolution”, or the option of returning the shoes to an address in the USA at my own expense. I was also warned that a PayPal case could take 30–60 days and that the outcome was not guaranteed.
Avery Lane then informed me that my complaint was being escalated to their “Dispute Resolution Support Team”.
Meanwhile, PayPal reviewed my evidence, closed the case in my favour and gave me an immediate full refund of £44.90.
One thing I would strongly urge potential customers to notice when reading the positive reviews: many appear to have been written before the reviewer has actually received the item, commenting instead on the website, choice of products, ordering process or communication. Given that I personally received repeated offers of 50% back in return for a positive review before my shoes arrived, I would take those pre-delivery reviews with a very large pinch of salt.
Photos attached: what I ordered versus what I actually received.
I got my money back, but only because I challenged it and had photographic evidence. Please do your research before ordering.
