Stuck in a rut with things to do. Just curious what your fav day out in the UK consists of?

I personally love Rochester castle, picnic on Chesil beach, a walk around Southwold, Pembroke castle, Hampton Court, day out in Edinburgh. Bath in the off season. Blenheim palace and a drive around the Cotswolds villages - maybe a pub lunch. Malvern hills is a fav also.

My dad used to take us along the coast in Devon to look for seals. May have to do that soon. Great memories

Wisley RHS garden. Bring a picnic in good weather. Visit the giant hothouses and the good cafes when it's cold. Always something stunning to look at in any season.

Also boat down the Thames from Westminster to Greenwich. Then Cutty Sark, Maritime Museum, Naval College, Queen's House, Greenwich Park, Royal Observatory, Greenwich Market, Greenwich Park, the footway under the Thames, Cable Car. Whatever you fancy, there is so much to do around Greenwich, then take the boat back into London, or go further out, past the stunning Thames Barrier.

There's a pub called the plough and harrow near llantwit major. If you follow the lane past the pub it comes to a lovely walk down to the sea. There's a little waterfall, ruins, all covered in woodland so cool on a sunny day. At the bottom the bay is v similar to ones often used as Dr who filming locations. Great for a skip about. Then return to the pub for either glamorgan sausages or the curry, with a pint of cider. It's honestly one of my fave ways to spend a day anywhere.

I love a good walk. Other faves are

  • the fort walk around Brean Down.
  • Worms Head in the Gower Peninsula.
  • The 4 waterfall walk in Wales also wonderful.
  • Crickhowell is a lovely day out
  • the art installation walk in the forest of dean
  • new forest country park is fab with kids, loads of structures to climb on and explore

Sadly I now live in an area surrounded by flat, forestless, farmland in the north east rather than the dramatic and leafy south west. Many things to love about life here but I seriously miss hills and trees!! Need to find my new fave days out up here that don't require hours in the car to get to the likes of Northumberland or the Yorkshire dales!

Just about anything in Northumberland - a walk to Dunstanburgh Castle, then buying kippers in Craster and a drink in the Jolly Fisherman. Picnic on Bamburgh beach in front of the castle and looking out to the Farnes. Alnwick Gardens and a trip to Barter Books. Or a walk up on Hadrian's Wall...
