To think most offices have these people?

This is meant to be lighthearted.
There is always a middle-aged woman who's been there 15 years or so, has all her mugs out at her desk, knows everyone, potters around talking to herself, very welcoming with new starters, loves her job, very talkative.

Someone a bit grumpier/stand offish who's been there 35 years, still on legacy contract terms, bit sharp with you but means well, likes everything done in a certain way.

Senior management who were promoted very young and very quickly, often in their 20s.

The office clique that feels hard to fit into, they all have lunch together, their in-jokes, very pally with management.

The young guy who's a joker, charismatic, harmless and just likes to have a laugh, gets on with their work.
Again not meant to cause any offence. I just always notice the same types in offices which is amusing! Does anyone fit into any?

You should write a sitcom.

Sounds like you're describing an environment from about 20 years ago!

How many of these kind of offices still exist? Hope they do!

WellThatIsABitMad · 08/08/2026 13:25

Yeah our office is nothing like this. All the stereotypes sound a bit dated.

Whosthetabbynow · 08/08/2026 13:25

Yep. Lived it.

Sorry, that’s not my experience of any office I’ve ever worked in.

Hotandpointy · 08/08/2026 13:27

Not really no.

Yes op. I did find that over the years in some companies especially civil service in Dublin. My dd worked in her dads this summer was blessed as all lovely. Think offices can get clicky
