I got together with my partner in controversial circumstances. His wife (my friend) died after a short illness and we got together a year later. His children were early teens at the time and mine in their early 20’s, In the intervening years I’ve moved in with him and rent my place out. We both retired quite early and I honestly have a lovely life, he is kind, generous and supportive. We love to travel and spend half the year overseas. However, when ever I mention getting married he goes cold on me. He says we’re happy as we are so why change it? I’m worried though if anything happens to him, being unmarried I wouldn’t have any security. I bought up my two children as a single parent and I worked full time all my working life to give them the best I could, so I’m not a pampered stay at home person! I know what it is to struggle. But I’m finding myself increasingly resentful. Am I being unreasonable? I don’t want to feel that I’m just nagging him but we might as well be married, then why won’t he?
