My little girl is 9 she is best friends with our next next door neighbour they play in our house every day no trouble out of them has dinner with us a good few nights a week, whatever my daughter gets the little girl gets too sweets ice-cream etc. I love that she has a lovely wee friend. Over the past few months I've noticed that my daughter does not get over the front door and is asked to wait outside with the door closed. Everytime the neighbour has had school friends up or cousins the girl will then not speak or even look at my girl then runs on into my house when they leave. It makes me so mad to see my little girl so upset. Am I being childish to just put a stop to them playing in our house, obviously kids will be kids they can still play outside.
She is also the same age. Feel awful even writing this I'm very fond of her

I think that there are a few issues here.

Obviously the child can’t be held responsible if she’s been told to keep your DD on the doorstep. Is it her? Or the parents?

On one hand, your DD needs to learn that it’s ok for her friend to have other friends and that it’s healthy for her and the other girl to sometimes play apart. She can’t be part of every gathering. But you also need to impress on her that there will occasionally be piss taking and that friendships should be give and take. Maybe you could agree with her that the next time she blanks your DD in favour of her other friends, that you and her will do something together, like colouring or craft etc, and just say ‘not today, dd is busy’ when the girl comes running round. Maybe encourage friendships elsewhere so she’s not so dependent on this girl. Enrol her in karate; it does wonders for their confidence.
