To tell a child on the bus she was rude

I was on a bus home from work yesterday. Two ladies were sat at the back of the bus with a few kids between them. These kids spent the majority of the journey walking up and down the bus seat hopping and talking to various random passengers(their mum's shouted them constantly to get back to the back of the bus but they didn't listen and the mums made no effort to come and move them either) one little girl there was aged around maybe 5years old. I got up to get off the bus in town and this 5year old little girl stood straight in my path in front of me and said "you're ugly and fat" I told the little girl that was very rude. Her mum looked at me said what did she say?before I could answer the little girl said "she's ugly and fat" the mum just said oh well she is and carried on walking off with the kids and glared at me for telling her child she was being rude. Was it really unreasonable to say it was rude? personally with her mum's response I'd guess she doesn't really teach her kids basic manners and respect for others

I think the child got off lightly with your reserved response op!

I told a 6 year old boy that he was really rude a few weeks ago. He aimed a punch right at my stomach 😵‍💫

I'd hope his parent or guardian at least made him apologise. I don't understand how some parents seem to allow their kids to be like this

@MissRaspberryRipples
No adult in sight.
I can only imagine what his home life must be like.

Compared to how someone else may have responded yes she got off lightly. I don't get how some people can't even be arsed to teach their kids respect

You should have said ‘so’s your mum.’

Pistachiocake · 02/08/2026 20:17

No, the mums should have been looking after their kids. We'd never have got away with that. You shouldn't have to parent someone else's kids.

Horrible kid and terrible parenting.

Because they’re the scum of the earth OP. You know this. There’s plenty of them out there.

Unfortunately so, I'd be mortified if my kids said that to anyone let alone a stranger. I raised mine to be respectful and behave themselves in public. Whilst they're not perfect angels they would definitely not get away with that at all

I’d have told the mother she was rude too and should mind her children better. I couldn’t care less what she might have thought of me saying that.
