AIBU to have mentioned my friend’s odd behaviour?

I was sitting with a friend yesterday and we were talking about part time casual work I could do and I mentioned a few things and then said I’d thought about delivering for Amazon. She then slammed her spoon down on the table and said loudly “Don’t work for Amazon!” And she pulled the weirdest face and looked a bit like Pennywise. It really freaked me out as she appeared frozen in this position for around 10 seconds.

I was taken aback and just stared at her and when she started speaking again I said “what was that??” And she asked what I meant so I told her she acted really odd for a few seconds. She seemed a bit upset and now I feel really guilty. I didn’t mean to upset her but I can’t get that face out of my head.

WIBU to have mentioned it?

I’m honestly not. Obviously she didn’t have clown make up and wild hair etc but just the eyes and mouth really resembled him and it seemed so out of context for what we were talking about. I’m wondering if she didn’t mean to slam the spoon so smiled to show she didn’t mean to appear aggressive?!
I really don’t know. She’s the most placid person ever so the spoon slam seemed out of character before anything else.

she also kept spilling her coffee by knocking into the table constantly which again she’s not normally like.

Perhaps she really does need to see a doctor especially if this is unusual behaviour for her. Can you have another conversation with her about it?

I’m meeting her next week but I don’t really want to bring it up again unless she actually does it again.

if she’s under pressure it could be a tic

When she started talking again she explained why and said she’d heard lots of awful things about them, impossible targets, very little pay etc

Well there you go then -
she was using her non verbal communication to support her words -
animated face expression
like pulling a face of shock 😮 or disgust 🤢??

Inmyuggs · 01/08/2026 10:51

Is she on some weird drug or meds?

As she explained why she’s so against Amazon and you made her aware that she looked odd I would let it go then. You’ve done nothing wrong and she’s an adult so it’s up to her how to process the info. Maybe she just overdid her facial expression but was reluctant to accept that.
However if something else happened I would be more factual about that and would just tell her what you saw without asking her why or what.

NoisyMonster678 · 01/08/2026 11:02

But she did act odd, and when she behaves like that, it is no wonder she got that reaction from you.

Action and reaction.

Boxjellyfish · 01/08/2026 09:51

Yes she really did. She opened her eyes really wide and they kind of drifted apart and then she lowered her head and did a slow creepy smile with her front two teeth showing and stayed like that for about 10 seconds. I’ve never seen her do this before and her eyes don’t normally go like that

That would freak me out too. I can’t bear horror films.

She is clearly possessed, never be alone with her or go near a subterranean sewer with her.

I feel that this has been extremely exaggerated.

Or entirely made up.

(Don't think this thread is odd, think people are misinterpreting it)

Could be absence seizures. Could be early signs of something else like dementia. Or she's secretly drinking.

The way she reacted afterwards would suggest she's worried about it too and knows something is wrong.

Well had she worked for Amazon? She might have good reason to be horrified by them. You have been warned.

Sandalsandbreadsticks · 01/08/2026 15:48

I thought you were being unreasonable but then I read the follow up comments and ok that does sound pretty strange. Especially if she is being more clumsy and such. Maybe keep an eye on her see if anything else happens

Changeisstillpossible · 01/08/2026 16:04

I also think this sounds like an absence seizure, and that it'd be a good idea for her to see her GP.

It’s complacency like this that gets you possessed by Pennywise in Costa. Be careful.

WildLeader · 01/08/2026 16:32

Some kind of epileptic absence?

Rachelshair · 01/08/2026 16:38

Didn't you try to ask if she was ok after a second or two? It isn't normal to pull a face for 10 seconds.
