They're ruining my entitlement to 'quiet enjoyment' in my garden.

They almost certainly will get in the bin.

We had them here last weekend! Flying about the garden and crawling about the pavement as I walked into town. <shudder>

At least they only appear for a day!

Theres none about this morning so perhaps they get up late. Or they're all dead

Hopefully the latter.

They’re quite fascinating aren’t they though? A Queen can live for 25 years, just tucked away underground.

We have had a full on indoor invasion twice in the last few weeks.
They covered the floor and windows :(
I spent hours hoovering them up.
I am hoping they don't return.

Flying ant day is mating day for ants.

According to this link the males die after mating - so only live a day or two after flying.

After mating the females chew their wings off and look for a suitable place to start their new colony.

Hence few flying ants around the day after flying ant day.

Flying ants need to get in the bin

Not literally I hope! Don't want a load of ants in my wheelie.

Edited

I didnt realise this, I thought they live for a day and then die.

Feel a bit bad now.

Ive been at war with the ants for the last 2 years.

Where we lived abroad, they could get on with life so long as they didnt enter the house - but thry didnt turn into flying clouds!

Now, any hint of an ant mound gets ant killer. It's working! Although... 25 years until the queen crokes it? Not sure i can sustain this for another 23 years!
