and long flowing hair half way down his back

is farking ridiculous?

Not wanting to be illiberal or anything, long hair is fashionable and I see a lot of mops on little boys but this is decidedly

GIRLY

Mind your own business.

Some little boys like long hair; some little boys like pink.

Good for them - let them enjoy it before they get to school and they learn to suppress those preferences.

OOOh I usualy have short hair and I like blue

am I boyish?

hunkermunker · 25/06/2008 19:08

VVV, I've often thought that - the bullies are often only spouting their own parents' hang-ups and prejudices.

When you're old enough to see them for what they are, it's your children who are on the receiving end of it.

Circle of life and all that. Vicious circle a lot of the time.

jangly · 25/06/2008 19:08

savoycabbage- that was very brave of you! Must have been a sight to see!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/06/2008 19:10

Indeed Hunker, indeed.

So, when you coming over to see me lady?

hunkermunker · 25/06/2008 19:13

Um... August?

savoycabbage · 25/06/2008 19:13

It was a beautiful sight Jangly. When we went to pick up dd the knickers had been cunningly swiped during a nappy change. I thought I was home free but she came down the stairs wearing a witches hat that was literally taller than her. Which was worse than the pants.

DS1 (who's 5) went off on his river trip yesterday wearing his pink flowery wellies, bought a year ago when he was very fond of all things pink and girly. I'm proud to report that he did not bat an eyelid when several of his classmates started chanting 'DS1 has GIRLS' wellies!'

OP - if the little boy you saw grows up into someone who is happy to resist peer pressure, then I'd say his parents have done a good job.

myredcardigan · 25/06/2008 19:27

Oh FFS, He's a BABY!!! Not even your baby!
Put your own hang-ups back in the closet and let him and his mother be!

-And to post about it here! YMCABU!

myredcardigan · 25/06/2008 19:29

PW, He was probably puzzled, thinking, 'eh, no, I have my wellies, stupid!

duchesse · 25/06/2008 19:29

Only in the western world is pink a "girl's colour". I lost track of the number of times we were asked in Turkey if our baby was a boy or a girl even when she was dressed in pink. That's for one.

For two, who made up this ridiculous rule that girls should have long hair and boys should have short hair? It's probably something to do with men's hair being likely to get caught in machinery or firing mechanisms of guns during battles, neither if which is especially relevant in our day. Children's hair should be of a practical length whether boys or girls. I find hair that a girl can sit on utterly repellent and unnecessary and must take up hours every week just to maintain. Gives the wrong focus to the poor kid's life.

beautifuldays · 25/06/2008 19:38

my ds is 4 and loves pink. it's his favourite colour, he also has fairly long hair (shoulder lenght). why shouldn't he?

he's happy i'm happy, sod what other people think!!

FrannyandZooey · 25/06/2008 19:38

who gives a monkeys
it's just too nothingy to get het up about IMO
my mother would agree with you, though - she is quite upset I am not buying special 'girls' clothes if my dc2 is a girl
because the babygros my ds wore as a baby will obviously be completely unsuitable for her

Tutterotsky · 25/06/2008 19:39

yabu

of course

Shoshe · 25/06/2008 19:40

Long hair on a boy or any child is hideous if accompanied by a mullet , otherwise it's fine.... not my cup of tea but no offence either. Shaved head with a rats tail was running around in the local park the other day, just like his Dad....ewwwww.

I wonder what the OP would think of my ds(4) who has long hair, wears a hair clip (black not pink) to keep it out of his eyes and carries his pink my little pony handbag with him everywhere?

Guadalupe · 25/06/2008 19:45

what's wrong with a boy being girly or a girl being boyish, especially as you say he cannot even speak yet?

You should see ds2 going to bed in dd's old t-shirts as nighties, pink and ruffled on the sleeves and everything.

Romy7 · 25/06/2008 19:51

dd1 had a wee friend like this. she was utterly convinced he was a girl, and kept telling me so. in fact arguing with me that he was.
ds1 spent many happy hours in a pink tutu and barbie heels, but i did cut his hair.
i think because she bathed with him it was somewhat easier to prove beyond doubt...

cosima · 25/06/2008 19:55

was he riding on the back of an ostrich spouting knowledge? If so I think its okay
