To ask possibly a silly question re: ferry travel?

I'm travelling by ferry, Dover/Calais and back again next month.
I've read a bit about the EES thingy causing huge delays at airports. Does anyone know if similar is happening at Dover Ferry port?

How does it work? Normally you just drive through, showing passport at the booth. Do you have to get out of the car and faff about now?

In laws have just been through and said it's on tablets, plus more booths than usual. I'll still be allowing longer than usual to get through though.

I'd keep an eye on the news to see what happens next:

Sounds very annoying. Thanks you Brexit!

Our ferry is at 7.40am. Would 5.40am.arrival be ok?

We use ferries a fair amount, but not in high season so afraid I don't have a clue. Plus so much could change by next month.
