To have a very messy house because it's too hot to clean?

Honestly the only way I can cope is to have a fan pointed at me at all times. I can barely find the energy to cook dinner let alone tidy up. Anyone else?

Im on holiday at the moment but when it was this hot before at home the only thing I did was clean the bathrooms, and do laundry. Luckily DH loves cooking although I would be happy with cold food and not turning any gas rings or oven on!
DS is a complete weirdo and eats hot food for breakfast lunch and dinner even in 30°+weather

aLFIESMA · Yesterday 23:17

OP, if you are struggling to do housework or 'proper' cooking at the moment let it go! Your number one job is to look after youself, hopefully it'll end soon Flowers

Belladog1 · Yesterday 23:20

I haven't done anything this week. Last Saturday I cleaned the house as it was cooler, but even then I didn't go mad. This week I've done absolutely nothing. It's supposed to be a bit cooler on Saturday, so I'll get reaquainted with the vacuum then

CatsLikeBoxes · Yesterday 23:24

The only housework I'm doing is washing clothes and the very basics of bathroom and kitchen. Pasta pesto and ice lollies feature heavily on my after work menu. After cooking at work all day I do the absolute minimum once I get home and feel zero guilt about it

justasking111 · Yesterday 23:26

I've been getting up really early to tidy, get washing on wipe around the kitchen and bathroom. Then have a shower, get dressed. It's the only time it's cool enough.

I am not a morning person normally.

Zov · Yesterday 23:30

Mine was a shit tip right up to today. (Has been for about 2 and a half weeks.) I managed to muster up enough energy (and luckily it wasn't very humid) to give a basic but decent clean of the lounge, dining room, bathroom, and kitchen. I didn't feel like it, but quite honestly, the grot and dirt and dust and messy floors were getting me down, and it was worth a few hours discomfort to get it somewhat clean.

I can relax now for a bit. Won't be doing anything for about a week now though (except a few meals, a few loads of washing, and the washing up.)

TheSoapyFrog · Yesterday 23:38

This is exactly me right now! I think I'll try and do it earlier or later when it's cooler, but it doesn't get cool enough!

CandyFlossssss · Yesterday 23:42

Ive barely done any cleaning and no cooking. I just can’t do it in this constant heat

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 23:47

@Belladog1predicted 29 here Saturday but 20 a week Saturday so I might be able to do stuff then. The hall and family room are full of my DD’s stuff from uni - only here a few days now in Columbia for six weeks and I can’t face it.

Mrstawnyowl · Yesterday 23:47

Next to nothing being done here. The living room is full of cooling devices and their respective cables. Too many obstacles to hoover around.

How messy are we talking? 🤔

Our house ( kitchen mostly) is so messy it makes me want to cry but its too hot to cry so I just forget about it until the next time I pass through 😂

Itsalittlebitwarm · Today 00:05

Are you at home all day, alone or with DC? Not that it matters but of course it's not too hot to do bloody housework!

Having grown up in hot countries when DM had 3 of us, cleaned, cooked every day, no AC and DF was training with a backpack, leather boots, full military uniform in the rainforest, no this is pathetic IMO.

I'm in my 50s, menopausal, teaching in sweltering classrooms, windows only open a crack, my fan blows warm air. This is nowhere near what my parents endured in summer Asia.

Come home, house is much cooler as curtains have been shut and DH wfh so has an AC unit in his office. I strip, lie down in front of it, have a cold shower then get on making dinner and looking after DC, do some marking then go go bed still sweaty with a fan on, get up extra early the next morning for a cool shower then leave at 7.30am for another exhausting day.

It's not just the heat at work, it's exacerbated with teenagers complaining it's too hot and I feel for them, behaviour, pressure from above to ensure you're teaching the boring prescribed powerpoints, have marked in 67 different coloured pens, noted every incident with 100 drop down boxes etc.

So, if I was at home, I would be hot but be able to make myself cooler, like DH. I walk in a dripping mess, he gets it!

Oxo01 · Today 00:08

Not moved most of the day except done a quick spag bog for dinner.
Had fan on but my cats scared of it so had to turn it off when she wants to walk past it !

In the last hour i have just had the front and back door wide open nice and cool so mopped all the floors downstairs, cleaned the kitchen tops, wiped over table and TV stand so I dont have to do it tomoorow.

Sitting having a coffee now watching tv whilst scrolling MN.

KissKissByeBye · Today 00:10

I unapologetically had a cornetto and a handful of strawberries for dinner. Even the idea of getting out the salad spinner and making dressing seemed too much.

Tonissister · Today 00:13

I noticed today that our house is looking grim. It's a bit messy, but I can tidy it easily. But there's a deep level grubbiness that I'd usually have tackled by now. The windows are smeared, window sills and skirting boards are dusty, the kitchen floor is swept but not mopped. And it's just too hot to do anything about it. By the time I have done the laundry, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, weeded and watered the garden, I am done. I can just about tidy and hoover but the rest needs a cooler day.

Itsalittlebitwarm · Today 00:18

To add, DH does the basic housework during the day as he's at home and has never complained about it being it too hot. On my day off, Friday, I do it a bit at a time; washing on, hang out, dishwasher on and put away, hoover for a few minutes, turn it off, change bedding slowly, wipe surfaces slowly, take dog for a walk at 6.30am when it's cooler (and I'm not a morning person but awake anyway as getting up the other 4 weekdays at this time), iron uniforms etc.

It's hot but my one day home is so much easier than work. My house is hot, fans help a bit and iced water, the opportunity to splash cold water on my face, take it slowly, it's really not that hard at home...

EmeraldShamrock000 · Today 00:24

Me too. I did a bit tonight but most days doing the basics. I have no energy.

LivelySquid · Today 03:52

There are lots of us the same as you. Ignore those that say it's pathetic and not too hot. It is too hot for you, so you do whatever feels comfortable for you.
I'm at home all day but have not got the energy to do anything more than tidy up and wiping down the kitchen and bathroom.
The rest can wait until it's cooler. I'm still up at 3am to sort out the laundry.

wonderstuff · Today 04:26

Glad I’m not alone, mine is a tip. Just found a load of ants in the kitchen though, so really do need to have a big clean, I’m just so tired when I get in (although awake now at 4am, did sleep 10-3:30). It’s too hot.

Such a mumsnet responce 😂😂

OP you do what you need to do. A lot of my medications make the heat intolerable so I’ve found cleaning hard. Thankfully I have a cleaner who has been able to help me keep on top of the house . Look forward to this heatwave been over. Look after yourself , the cleaning can wait.

Chickadee26 · Today 04:34

Don't exert yourself in the heat if you don't need to. Fan, ice packs and cool drinks until you feel yourself "come back to life". Also cool baths.
The heat sucks the strength right out of me.

That works for you? Great crack on. Plus enjoy your air con.

People have the right to express their different experiences to extreme heat. And yes, it is fucking extreme for this country.

Mt563 · Today 05:34

Cleaning, especially hoovering, has me dripping with sweat once the heatwave gets going. So I don't do it. It won't kill anyone for a few days.

Winefride · Today 06:04

I wake up and clean bathrooms, cook etc around 4 am so I don't have to do anything (apart from the gym - and sometimes I do that before 6 am) in the heat of the day. I can't stand the thought of hot/stale urine smells from the bathroom or food sat out in the kitchen on plates, in the rubbish etc.

Might be different if the heat was for a day or two but, when it's extended like it has been, I just don't see how anyone could put off cleaning at least so things remain sanitary.

InkyWink · Today 06:25

It's dreadful in my house. I will have to do something soon. Actually surprised we haven't got mice. I desperately need to vacuum everywhere and deep clean the kitchen, plus mop all the hard floors.

Bring on the weekend after this one, when it will be low 20s and I will be able to breathe again.
