Things to do on a three-night trip to Rome

Sorry - I know it's not AIBU, but posting for traffic. After a lot of stress over the past few years, hubby got the all clear from the cancer and I have managed to arrange childcare and we've booked three nights in Rome in a few weeks time.

I know there's lots to see, but I'd really appreciate recommendations on what to do.

Going against the grain of the thread but I research and book restaurants first, then work backwards to whatever sights happen to be near them. This is especially the case in Rome.

If I was only going somewhere for 3 days I wouldn't be spending any of that in a queue if I could help it.

Wear comfortable shoes, the cobblestones are hard work. Rome is amazing, save some time for just chilling out watching the world go by. When I took my mum she hated the Vatican, the excess of it is a bit sickening. She loved hanging out in Trastevere, going to the markets like Campo de Fiori, and the Segway tour was her favourite! The Colosseum and Forum can’t be missed, same for the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps too, thankfully a lot of it is walkable. And you will need a lot of gelato, it’s going to be hot.😁Lucky you, I am jealous!

I know you might mean guide books, but Angels and Demons by Dan Brown is fun. Also Conclave by Robert Harris.
I love Rome. There are just random beautiful things around every corner. Wear good shoes as you’ll do a LOT of walking.
Also of you’re a cat lover, there are loads of cats living in the Forum!

Thank you. No, I did mean fiction set in Rome so I'll definitely check out the books you've recommended.

A quick tip, try and get hold of the Oxford Archeological Guide for Rome. It’s absolutely brilliant to give you context and detail for what you are looking at in places like the Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon, etc plus loads of cool little details as you wander about.

I ordered a second hand edition yesterday based on your recommendation and it arrived today!
