To regret not buying this house?

I was £70k worse off when this was still on the market in Jan/February and I feel a deep sense of regret for not taking the plunge. Nothing has come to the market quite like and it tickles all my boxes.

In before 'wahhhh its got no garden!!!' I do not care. I hate gardening.

Of course my dream house sells as soon just before I can unexpectedly afford it.

Currently rotting in my parking-space sized 1 bed terraced.

Is that a sink in the bedroom?
Is there no parking?
presumably traffic would be driving right by the front, that would be annoying.
The grey kitchen is awful, are they stick on tiles? Also, open shelves are such dust catchers, you’d be forever brushing dust off your plates.
Grey living room, and with a cold tiled floor!

There, I’ve tried to be as negative as possible so you don’t have too many regrets.

it just wasn’t meant to be op, something better will come along for you, hopefully soon 🤞🏻

But the stairs look like a death trap due to the lack of bannister right at the bottom and one of the windows is bricked up? You've had a lucky escape! 😉

I've also just noticed the plug sockets right at head/neck level behind the bench seating. Imagine trying to get comfy and whacking your head off your charger.

Its the sort of thing I would rent as an airbnb and think I would love it and want it and wished I lived in a house like that,,, and the reality would kick in, no parking, no hallway, titchy kitchen, no outside space

You might hate gardening but thats not all that gardens are, they give extra space, another room to the property as it were, it also helps with washing, or doing DIY things that you dont want to do in the house

Very cute, but not practical in my view.

The right house will come along, we lost 2 houses for different reasons before getting our current one. I am so grateful we ended up with this house, we were compromising more than we were willing to let on with the other 2 houses as we were still in the honeymoon put an offer in stage. Hindsight now, this house was the right one, and we love it.

Your house will come.

You could say goodbye to a Sunday morning lie-in at that property ! You are close to Norwich Cathedral that has bells that chime the 1/4 hours normally and on a Sunday morning they'll probably have the whole carillion going.

It also is close to a stream/river at the back, so I wonder if the area has ever been flooded?

No parking to be seen unless you can squeeze a car down that passage at the side.

Sorry but it doesn't float my boat.

LavenderSweetPea · 06/07/2026 20:04

You never know OP, I have a dream house, I have driven past it every day for years and I've always loved it. It came on the market in December and I couldn't view it because I was going through redundancy at work and wouldn't have been able to get a mortgage, of course by February when I had a new role sorted it had been snapped up. Well fast forward to last week and it's back on the market, the buyers had pulled out on exchange day because of a personal change of circumstances and I viewed it today.

If it's meant to be, it's will be!

DelphiniumBlue · 06/07/2026 20:32

Has that got one of those pesky flying freeholds?

Blueyblueyblue · 06/07/2026 20:34

It looks lovely @babyursohellbent . Such a classic Norfolk style. You’ll find another property for you to buy and love.

Pieandchips999 · 06/07/2026 20:40

I think it's totally gorgeous. I can see how you have regrets. It's how I would like our tiny cottage to look in the end. However it's so tiny that our downsizing plan wildly failed and we ended up taking an additional mortgage for a lift conversion. There's always something to maintain as it's old. When I saw gorgeous houses like that online I just stole all the decor pictures and used them on mine 🤣 for the extra money you have you could probably get something bigger and pay someone to do it up and decorate. You're paying for
the finish. Think I'll add it to my stolen pics actually 🤣

Oh and ours was sold and came back on the market when we were ready to move. Turns out we had a mad neighbour. Luckily I'm madder and she's long gone 🤣

No I don't think so, but it looks like the one next door has because it goes over the alleyway !

JoyousWriter · 06/07/2026 21:56

Lots of grey, dated bathroom and an absolutely revolting kitchen, with tiles that look like big elastoplasts.

Does that help, OP?

Urgh, the stairs! I have similar ones. I'm still recovering from yet another fall down them from January. Lots of broken bones. Apparently I won't start feeling better for 12 months.

You definitely don't want that house @babyursohellbent It would literally kill you in the end! I had adult social services called out by my GP because of my stairs. They offered to put in a lift, they wouldn't fit bannisters or a stair lift as they are too narrow.

Wave it goodbye and thank your lucky escape!

exexpat · Yesterday 16:00

Did you post about this when it was on the market? I think I may have replied then to point out that it is on a street where the local residents have been up in arms about a church getting permission to be changed into a music venue (almost opposite that cottage) so you have possibly had a lucky escape. But the old bits of Norwich are lovely and it is a great city. Something else will come up, maybe on a quieter street?

@babyursohellbent

'tickles all my boxes'

😱 we don't need smut like this on here, thank you very much.

Slightyamusedandsilly · Yesterday 16:24

Really lovely area to live in. Not a bad price either.

Squidward2026 · Yesterday 16:25

Its so pretty but I think itd be really claustrophobic to live in. Youd be surrounded by noise and traffic and no outdoor space whatsoever to escape to.

AlexFurbison · Yesterday 18:04

It's beautiful! It may come back on the market again, sales do fall through. I'd call the agent and tell them you love it and please contact you if it becomes available again.

This happened to us and the agent gave us first refusal when the previous sale fell through at a late stage.

purplecorkheart · Yesterday 18:24

If it is for you it will come back on the market when the circumstances are right.

Do you drive? The parking might be a nightmare if you do. It does look like there is a lot cosmetic if not more work to be done to the house. I can see the potential though depending on your circumstances.
