Is this plan for a hotel tonight a waste of money ?

I am planning to watch the football in my city later with friends - would usually get a bus in and share a taxi back - only a 15 min journey. Total cost maybe £15.

I have noticed there’s some cheap budget hotels deals going - £40 for one in the centre. I’m thinking it could be a plan to book this and save faffing with taxi’s after incase it’s really busy, it also means I could sleep through until 10/11 rather than be woken when DH gets up at 8 for the nursery run (he isn’t a football fan). I start work at 1 tomorrow.

DH says it’s a waste of money/pointless getting a hotel where we live and I should just come home and sleep in the spare room?

I think it’s an absolutely brilliant idea.
For £25 more it would be a no-brainer for me.

I think a night in a hotel sounds easy and relaxing after your evening out. Go for it.

Do it, own it, enjoy it!

Sounds great. A little treat and only £25 quid extra. Probably a lot safer too as there might be drunk or bleary eyes drivers around. You could treat yourself to breakfast in the morning too.

Definitely go for it. You can enjoy the evening without thinking about taxis and stuff.

It’s difficult to know what time the match will finish - too many variables such as extra time, weather delays etc. So pre-booking difficult.

They will be relying on taxi’s as they have earlier commitments tomorrow morning.

So if they’re having to get a taxi anyway, then I’d just jump in with them.

I get hotels regularly when I go out and so I’m not against the idea, if you want to do it then do but it seems a waste of time when you’re 15mins away.

I would rather book one when I could actually make the most of it.

If your friends weren’t getting a taxi then I’d definitely stay but as they are then it’s just as easy sharing one with them.

I guess if you do stay in a hotel you would drive in and so it would save you and your friends having to get the bus in.

The easier solution is to get the taxi home.
But if you just want to have a night away then do it.
It’s more just about what you’d prefer to do.

I’d probably do it as a one-off. However, I’d also be a bit worried 700 pissed up blokes will have the same idea and turn up at your hotel and you’ll struggle to sleep due to the wanker element.

Do it!
I booked t'lodge with free cancellation, in our nearby town weeks ago, in case England finished top of their group and this happened. £40 per room for me and my DS. Taxi would have been £60 for a 20 min ride after midnight.
We are driving in later this afternoon, and even with parking, I think hopefully getting 5 hours solid sleep before midday checkout, plus staying off the roads after the game is well worth the extra £20-30.

Great thinking!
