To think bug bites are particularly bad this year?

I feel like I’m being eaten alive at the minute with bug bites, they look like mosquitoes bites - legs, arms, latest one is on my boob! I was panicking that the house was infested with something but my sister says she is also suffering much more bites this year than normal! Anyone else?

Not for me - East Anglia

Zanatdy · Today 05:15

I’ve not been bitten at all. South East.

anothergrandchild · Today 05:18

Yes! Loads of bites all over south east

Apacketofbiscuitsaday · Today 05:20

Yes a lot during the heatwave up North

AliceNotInChains · Today 06:17

We’re north east

Just a normal year here- South West. Get yourself a tube of Skincalm ointment. It’s brilliant for stopping the itching. Available from Savers shops and cheap. There are other stockists.

Ineffable23 · Today 06:42

Not here, east Anglia, but if you're getting bitten I would strongly recommend incognito anti-mosquito spray. Not DEET based so doesn't melt plastics but really effective - clinically tested and proved to actually work.

We are in Yorkshire and I have Been bitten three times over the last month . It’s odd as I don’t think I have ever been bitten in this country.

work colleague was bitten a few weeks ago and ended up with a hospital visit and a few days off work.

so yes I would agree it’s been a odd year for it

NChangeorama · Today 06:51

No bites here (SouthWest). Honestly, my first thought was "could it be bed bugs?". Bed bug bites are quite distinctive (clusters, straight lines -- Google it). Hope for your sake it isn't: they are bastards to get rid of (the actual bugs).

KatRee · Today 06:54

Yes, I’ve had quite a few bites this year and so has my 3 year old. I don’t remember him ever being bitten before. We were out yesterday and in the evening I realised he had 3 big itchy bites on various different places on his body

BakedBeeeen · Today 06:57

I’ve had three “rounds” of bites since the heatwave started, I’m in London. I carry Anthesan cream wherever I go - the sooner you put it on after a bite, the quicker it heals!

Marwoodsbigbreak · Today 07:09

Nope. Are you sure it’s not something in your house? SE here

I got a few absolute corkers at Whitsun in the Isle of Wight, and I very rarely get bitten. One of them has scarred and they were very deep. Combination of wet and warm weather I guess.

Auroraloves · Today 07:27

I’m north east and haven’t had any yet. I usually get absolutely riddled with bites.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · Today 07:28

I was driving home last night and thought how many insects there were buzzing about. It's a good thing, really. Insect populations have been dropping dramatically.

I've been bitten several times this year, too. I'm usually only considered delicious by French mosquitoes while on holiday, but the UK insects must be especially peckish this year, particularly horse flies.

MissyMooPoo2 · Today 07:28

I’ve got about 12 large itchy horse fly bites over my legs. It’s never been so bad. I’m in the South West (Devon).

Edit - these happened out dog walking, not in the house. Maybe that’s the difference from the experience of others in the SW who seem to be escaping!

indianrunnerduck · Today 07:37

I have had at least six tick bites so far this year, found them burrowed into my legs and lots of other, very itchy, insect bites, which is unusual. I am in the SW and out walking with the dog every day. It's hard to avoid the long grasses in the hedgerows and fields.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · Today 08:22

Yes, I got so many I was convinced we had bed bugs! Thank god we didn’t! DH is allergic to horse fly bites and he currently has a swollen leg and foot to the point where he can barely walk. We’re north west, rural and have a dog to walk.

Mermaidsarereal · Today 08:37

Yes I have a huge bite on my arm and I hardly ever get bitten in the UK!

Ilovemyshed · Today 08:45

Not really although loads on the car.
Get an afterbite stick.

Santasbigredbobblehat · Today 08:48

Yes loads here in East London. Really big ones that have still left a mark two weeks later. My children and those I teach are covered too.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · Today 08:50

Loads including spider bites. Anthisan cream is great and smells nice.

RumAndCola · Today 09:01

Interesting I got bitten yesterday and was just thinking it was unusual as I’d usually have been bitten multiple times by now.

MalcomVexx · Today 12:06

East mids. I have the craziest bites I’ve ever seen. They might be a horsefly but also have no idea. Didn’t see any bugs, came out of nowhere and am having to cover my arm and shoulders for fear of looking like a leper.

OrsolaRosso · Today 12:11

I usually get bitten lots by mozzies, but am keeping them at bay with Smidge. It's not DEET, smells good, and keeps the nasty buggers away. I spray it on exposed skin last thing at night.
