Really enjoyed Shari Lapena, BA Paris, Adele Parkes etc. going through Amazon to see which ones I’ve read but can anyone recommend a really good book by them or another author? I also love books about families like the thorn birds. Thanks if you can help.

Pretty much any by Lucinda Berry. I've read about 10 of hers over the last couple of weeks. The Perfect Child is really good.

Happywalnut · 02/07/2026 19:57

Thank you. Haven’t heard of her so will have a look!

I love Nicci French for this kind of read. Husband and wife writing together and there's loads to get through.

I’ve enjoyed a few Nicci French books but for some reason I find them instantly forgettable.

Catherine Ryan Howard, I don't read a lot of thrillers but I really enjoy her books.

Based on a True Story by Sarah Vaughan. Just finished it and really enjoyed it. About a family and psychological thriller so will tick your boxes. Better written than some as well.

I seem to be mostly reading Harriet Tyce, Daniel Hurst, Alice Feeney and Miranda Rijks at the moment
Harlan Coben is always good too but for something a little different try "The Dinner Party" by by Frieda McFadden

Blood orange by Harriet Tyce!

The Great Alone - Kristin Hannah

I read so many books and this one I truly cannot forget!

Apacketofbiscuitsaday · 02/07/2026 22:03

Claire Douglas books are good.

Everything Frieda McFadden (except the dinner party which was truly awful) for easy read thrillers.

John Marrs is good too, but I prefer his dystopian type novels over his thrillers.

How about Lucy Foley’s The Midnight Feast, clever and everything nicely tied up at the end, and Paula Hawkins’ (wrote The Girl on the Train) The Blue Hour - a real psychological thriller.

Puppylucky · 02/07/2026 22:12

Gillian Flynn who seems to be a bit forgotten these days wrote some great books beside Gone Girl - specifically Dark Places and Sharp Objects.

I really enjoy Lisa Jewell, she’s just released a new one today that I pre-ordered on audible so can’t wait to listen to that!

Papergirl1968 · 02/07/2026 22:24

Dorothy Koomson is good.

whippersnapper55 · 02/07/2026 22:31

Elizabeth Haynes is good, especially Into The Darkest Corner.

Treetreetreetree · 02/07/2026 22:35

Robert Harris.

Blood orange by Harriet Tyce!

I reserved this at the library when she was on the Traitors months ago after all the hype… Finally got it last week, read it and thought WTAF?!

MarchionessVonSausage · 02/07/2026 23:44

The website Goodreads is great for finding new authors. Put in books you like and it recommends new ones, I use it a lot.

Robert Harris.

I love Robert Harris. Might not look like he fits the mould but there’s all such great books. And thrilling. And psychological! The one about the two men escaping to America after the execution of Charles I - so exciting.
