TW photo of possibly infected scratch

6yo daughter fell off her bike Saturday evening and scratched her leg. Was fine and only minor. Today she came out of school complaining of a headache, not feeling well, tired and “fuzzy head” (her words 😞 ) didn’t mention leg until we got to the car.

The two may be unrelated I’m not sure. I took her to the pharmacy and they just advised sudocream and a plaster.

Opinions please of if I can leave this until the morning and see if she improves? The redness hasn’t spread since 3pm (I drew a line around it)

Is her tetanus vaccination up to date?

Wanttohelpbuthow · 30/06/2026 18:24

I should have said the red around the scratch wasn’t there this morning

I don’t think the scratch looks infected that’s a normal amount of redness, there will be a localised inflammation and it’ll settle.
I suspect the generally feeling grotty is totally unrelated and she’s either going down with a virus or she’s just a bit tired and dehydrated as it’s been so hot and muggy and horrible.

Get her drinking regularly, get some paracetamol and a decent meal down her and see how she is in the morning 😊

Looks like normal local inflammation from the immune response, not immediately worrying.

Draw a line round the red shape, disinfect, keep clean, keep checking size and her temperature.

It doesn't look infected, it's normal for a bit of redness and hest because the body is trying to heal itself. Keep it clean and keep an eye on the redness, if the redness gets bigger or begins to swell, if the would gets puss in then seek advice.
