Spray tan safety?

Countrystroll · 30/06/2026 11:33

DD is having a spray tan before going to her prom. She has been gifted it as a present for her 16th from friends. I’m a bit unsure of safety. Apparently salon has extraction and she won’t be having her face done but should she wear a mask?

She can’t wear a mask or she will have a mask shaped patch on her face that isn’t tanned.

Best advice is to exfoliate and moisturise religiously in the week beforehand. Put Vaseline on the palms of her hands, tint dot on dry patches like knees and elbows and edges of her feet.

And just don’t take a big breath in when her face is being sprayed. Simple.

As a one off i’d just let it go if she’s excited about it? It’s better than actual tanning. If she wants to do it again then you could explore safety and other options with her

Why would she have a mask shaped patch when it says in the post that she isn't having her face done?

DoubleShotEspressox · 30/06/2026 11:56

@PattyBladelll Ok, or have an entirely different colour face then 🤷🏼‍♀️

Countrystroll · 30/06/2026 12:18

Yes to confirm she’s not having face done as she wants to match make up and be able wash her face to prevent spots .

I think it may look very odd if she doesn’t have her face done.
Out of curiosity, why do you think it’s not safe to have a spray tan?

I’m just worried about inhaling spray. I have massive anxiety so worry about these things .

it is a one off part of her big night so let her have the works

TurtleGroove · 30/06/2026 12:41

You’re overthinking it.

Fabellini · 30/06/2026 12:43

If her face is clean before she goes for her spray tan and she doesn’t touch it or muck about with it while the tan is developing, and then uses her normal skincare etc once she has showered off the tan, then there is no reason she’ll get spots.

HortiGal · 30/06/2026 12:48

Safety for a spray tan? I’d hope she’s sensible enough to close her mouth 🤣 How do some kids ever grow up with parents dreaming up shit to try and stop them doing things.

How do you think millions of people the world over manage to get a spray tan while remaining perfectly well and healthy, then? There's nothing dangerous about getting a spray tan.

If you stop your daughter doing completely normal and mundane things because you happen to have an anxiety problem, that's incredibly unfair on her. Your anxiety shouldn't be allowed to affect anyone except you, and certainly not your child.

ainsleysanob · 30/06/2026 12:50

She just needs to make sure she counts her Mississippis and she’ll be fine.

Thank you … I needed someone to say this. My anxiety is through the roof right now with a husband recovering from cancer and a dad who is really poorly with cancer.

Thank you .. i am a mess right now and massively overthinking so need someone to tell me I’m letting my anxiety cloud my judgement. I think I need to visit my gp

Obviously she needs to count mississippilly 😄

I think visiting your GP is a good idea OP. You really don’t want to pass on your anxieties to your daughter. Spray tans are safe, it would never cross most people’s minds that they’re not.

Thanks @MummyDummyNow . Google suggests that active ingredient DHA is not great to be inhaled but maybe that means if you use regularly.

I got told it's ok except in pregnancy, and to delay it if you are pregnant.

I think that would be a good idea. You're not just letting your anxieties run your life, they're interfering with a big event for your daughter.

I hope your husband makes a good recovery and sorry about your dad. I see why you're overwhelmed.
