“Go to the doctor if you are feeling warm”

i’m in NE Scotland. It’s been warm and sunny. Not the horrible heat of down south but clear and sunny.

we have a constant battle between me and my husband about the back (patio) doors being open. I want them open “because it’s hot”. He wants them closed because “it’s freezing”

He has just told me to go to the doctors if I’m hot.

He is on weight loss injections and will not accept that they are making him feel the cold when it’s not actually cold (https://www.google.com/search?q=mounjaro+side+effects+feeling+cold&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari#lfId=ChxjMe)

when I mentioned it was a side effect of his medication he swore at me and grabbed a blanket (door firmly shut and locked).

its 20 degrees and has been sunny all day.

AIBU to think that if you take medication, especially voluntarily, you need to take some responsibility for knowing what it might do to your body.

He listens to news radio all day and is well aware it’s been uncomfortably hot this week - it’s not “just you” (meaning me)

Before you continue to Google Search

It’s summer. He’s the one who should be going to the doctors if he’s cold.
Also unreasonable of him to swear at you over this

Talltreesbythelake · 28/06/2026 18:11

It's better to keep doors and curtains closed and some windows ajar to get a draught through the house. Having the patio doors open will heat up the interior.

Meadowfinch · 28/06/2026 18:18

To be fair, body fat is nature's insulation. If he's got used to carrying a thick layer of sub-cutaneous fat, and now he's lost it, he may be feeling the difference.

Equally, are you rushing around or menopausal? Perhaps you are feeling hot for that reason.

Or it could just be it's summer, it's warm and his drugs are giving him the shivers.

I’ve never been on weight loss medication but I really wouldn’t describe 20c as “hot”, especially not if you’re sitting in a draught from open doors. Some people heat their houses in winter to those sorts of temperatures, while wearing trousers and a jumper!

He’s completely unreasonable to swear at you, but if he’s cold he’s cold, regardless of why. He’s already using a blanket and presumably wearing warm clothes. Why do your temperature preferences trump his? Can you be in different locations in the house, one with and one without the windows open?

And if you think it’s really hot outside I don’t understand leaving doors open all day anyway, you’d be better to shut the curtains.

NessCaffayy · 28/06/2026 18:22

I am on WLIs and yes I can feel freezing when others are hot, so I get it.
However I put a fleece on if I’m cold, I don’t gaslight my family and make out they have a problem when there’s a heatwave.

Did you pay attention to where OP is and what the general temperature there is? ie "warm" Think high teens, rather than high twenties.

RobinEllacotStrike · 28/06/2026 18:25

Yes it’s the MJ. I had the same side effect. Freezing all winter & loving the heatwave (SE) where I can enjoy the heat now, and rarely break a sweat (excluding hot yoga).

its a common side effect. He would benefit from a few more layers, vest, I use my sleeveless padded vest quite a lot when at home.

TheChosenTwo · 28/06/2026 18:28

20° is far from hot in my book.
im also on WLI, I do feel the cold but even before I was on them 20° has never felt like a warm indoor temperature, my heating is set in some rooms to click on if it drops below 21.
The swearing is unacceptable.
its been in the high 30’s here this week and its been lovely finally feeling naturally warm rather than from central heating or electric blankets.
But the temp has dropped today and I’m back in my joggers, a vest and a big warm sweatshirt and have just taken cover under my electric blanket on the sofa again while dh cooks dinner.
i do accept that having a lot less fat than I used to means I will feel the cold more and also the medication in general seems to make me feel chilly as I was feeling like this on the jabs even towards the start of me taking it when I was still definitely overweight. It’s my problem, not anyone else’s.

Lemonade2011 · 28/06/2026 18:35

20c is quite warm in the highlands. If he’s cold can he not wear a hoodie or something. I have no thyroid so I’d add a layer as I feel the cold it’s easier to warm up than cool down. Also from ne highlands your dh is being unreasonable

hay5689 · 28/06/2026 18:41

Definitely the WLI. I remember I started them around May time and spent the entire summer shivering, I was literally cold to the bone. He needs a few more layers and a blanket if he’s going to continue them, it’s not fair that everyone else melts for him.

Tillow4ever · 28/06/2026 19:03

In our house, it’s the person who’s warm that gets to control the temperature - it’s much easier for the cold person to add a layer/blanket to warm up than it is for the person who’s too hot to cool down. That said, I’d make sure the cold person wasn’t sitting in line of an open door or window of course. And if I were the warm one and could cope with the doors/windows shut I’d do that to help them warm up.
