To think my neighbour is a lying arsehole?

Last week I spoke to neighbour about dog barking so frequently, daily for a year since I moved in. He said he and his wife had health issues and he said hed look into starting training this week.

This week dog has been barking late into the evenings. After waking me last night three times I spoke with neighbour on his way back from the pub who said he hadnt had chance to start training because of everything going on. I explained the toll it was taking and he said his elderly dog, never makes a noise, had died just before he had gone to the pub. It was old and very frail. I said how sorry I was and how much I'd appreciate them to look into training.

I was very shocked when at 3am I saw dog who was supposed to have died out in the years barking its little head off. Very frail. I didnt mind too much. Its old and doesnt make a noise, but what did bother me was that neighbour had said it had died before he went out!

I then saw dog was out at 8am when I opened the curtains and again at 10am when it was caught in a downpour, dog sodden and blanket sodden. Female neighbour was home but didnt bring it in. Dog too frail to go in, dont know if back door was open. Also witnessed dog panting very heavy and walking round and round in circles. I was about to report to RSPCA when neighbour came round asking me to 'bear with them' because elderly dog had died.

I'd noticed she had brought dog in about ten minutes before she came round, so the poor dog was dying alone with a wet blanket outside.

I'm taking my complaint further with council as it's been a motherfucker of a morning with the barking and then her coming round but aibu to think theyre horrible for leaving the dog outside to die alone in its last hours and him saying it had died yesterday? I so wanted to take him to task on his blatant lie but will allow the council to deal with it from now on and I'll not say another word to them.

No, you’re not being unreasonable. The repeated lying is odd and frustrating, and leaving a dying elderly dog outside alone in the rain is f'ing disgusting.

I think the best thing would be to report them for cruelty. They are not fit to have pets.

I have reported them and her continuous shouting and screaming at the dog when it barks. They're a nightmare. Anytime I raise it with them I'm made to feel like I'm the problem. It makes me really sad as I've worked really hard to make my life decent there and my home nice and theyre the only thing thats spoiling it.

I also got video evidence of the dying dog sat on the concrete in the rain and then circling round and round.

When she asked me to bear with them as their dog had died I wanted to give her a mouthful but didn't. My pet died recently and the hours and days that followed all I heard was the dog barking all the bloody time whilst I was trying to process my grief.

This is abuse. Animal cruelty is a criminal offence. Please keep reporting. RSPCA, police, anyone. You have evidence.

That poor, poor dog. It must have been in so much distress.

The other dog must be got away from them asap.

God, I hate people sometimes. I think if I lived next door to them I wouldn’t be responsible for my actions.

When I first complained to the council they got a letter and they rang the council to tell them about their health issues and why they've not got round to training the dog yet. I feared they gave them a real sob story and that the council wouldn't take my complaint seriously, but so far they are.

Ive not heard them say a kind word to those dogs. All I've heard is screaming and yelling from her to the dogs and even the old one when it has weed in the house. I hear everything and im not sure the neighbours realise this because im always quiet. Theyre fucking intolerable.

I'd give them an earful. Don't feed me that line of bollocks, I can see the fucking dog, alive and well in the garden, mate! If it wakes me up again, I'll make a noise complaint.

JumpingRabbit · 27/06/2026 14:29

Are you the same poster that posting earlier in the week?

Why keep dithering, they are not going to train the dog. Although no mention of it being old in the previous post.

I've now asked the council to take my complaint forward, which theyre willing to do.

The barking dog is young, aged three. The older dog which died and then died again today was old, I think 19. Rarely heard that one, just the female neighbour yelling at the poor bugger for weeing inside.

I'm actually very fiery and had to hold myself back from flipping. He walks past everyday and I was waiting for him looking in today. He didnt. I feel I have to be careful in my reaction to them if the council are dealing with it. I need to be reasonable, I think.
