I get special assistance through the airports. Pushed in a wheelchair and helped through security.. helped onto the ambilift and plane etc. I also tip the person helping me. Either 10 pounds or 10 euros.. . One of the other assisted passengers saw me and said l was " wasting " my holiday money and it’s their job.. and they thought it was ridiculous... then said " l bet you waste more of your money tipping the cleaners at your hotel too" l said no we dont stay in hotels we always get a villa.. at this he tutted and said " more money than sense".. These people are so helpful.. getting you through security and passport control. No queuing etc.. do other special assistance passengers tip?

I honestly couldn't care less what a complete stranger has to say about how I spend my money. Ignore them. Do what you like.

CassandraWebb · 26/06/2026 23:05

It didn't cross my mind to tip them Blush.

That said I have an electric wheelchair so they don't have to push me. But I guess I assumed that it's their job, and that their jobs only exist because people need special assistance

I do make sure to thank them etc but I can't say I ever really tip except at restaurants

TinyTempest · 26/06/2026 23:06

If they’re allowed to accept then why not? 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn’t worry about the ramblings of a stranger.

Stepmum900 · 26/06/2026 23:06

Nah I wouldn’t tip them. It is their job and all part of the service

My husband needs special assistance at the airport and we always tip .
Big shout out to the Special Assistance team at Larnaca airport , who are absolutely brilliant ! 🙏

I never tip them but then I push my daughter and they are just showing us the way. They are simply doing their job, I don't see why I should tip them

Buddhalover · 26/06/2026 23:47

Yea, always tip them and the cleaners. I think they do a great job for little wages. Why not?

I worked this a holiday as a university student. I often got a chocolate bar. I loved that.

My DP uses it and always tips. A fiver usually. It is a tiny proportion of the total cost of the journey, and is worth every penny to get fast tracked through security and passport control etc. It’s always appreciated.

I always tip. My autistic brother flies with me and my husband 1-3 times a year to Sydney Australia from London,(man I love my husband and his family but my younger English/Danish brother fucking loves life in Australia.) The special assistance crew don’t need to do anything 99% of the time for my family but the one time (so far) we got delayed by a medical emergency and missed our connection they (this was at kuala lampur airport) went above and beyond to make sure we and my (28) year old brother knew what was happening, when and why. It was quite funny as he ended up being quite non plussed by the constant updates but we appreciated them!
