We used to have one very much like that although grey/blue rather than beige.

If yours is made by Hammer carpets don’t touch it with a bargepole, ours wore into ribbons within a couple of years even though we are shoes off upstairs.

Ablondiebutagoody · 26/06/2026 11:24

Dull landlord beige

Favouritefruits · 26/06/2026 11:25

I really like it! Looks lovely on stairs, definitely a hall and stair carpet rather than a room carpet! You’ve made an excellent choice!

NormanWhizz · 26/06/2026 11:27

Bland. Safe. Dull.

O00ps · 26/06/2026 11:27

The carpet looks great but my eye keeps being drawn to the edge stripe against the panelling (if you have plainer walls it would look better).
How does a carpet fitter get those edges around the corner stairs, the top turn and along the landing?

NattyKnitter116 · 26/06/2026 11:41

unless you’re religious about no shoes/dirty feet the bottom few stairs will get grubby within 18 months.
If it’s a flat weave i echo the other poster - it will be difficult to clean.

Also the runner tape is an unnecessary expense and generally not designed for a close fit carpet. Looks out of place - likely a designer who doesn’t know any better and is trying to be ‘different’.
If you have kids and shoes combo your life will be easier with a darker neutral coloured 80/20 or synthetic twist - you can vax the shit out of them, spot clean, you name it.

The only thing you can really ruin it with is bleach or cigarette burns ! (Oh and moth but the shop can spray it if that’s an issue or if you are spendy Westex does a bombproof twist but it’s very spendy £60 per sqm -will likely outlast your kids living at home though).

if you really must have a flatweave get a synthetic one then at least you’ll be able to vax it(I think !). Also note of caution - flatweave is slippery on stairs if your wearing socks!

YourWinter · 26/06/2026 11:42

I have a similar neutral colour but I don’t like the stripes along the edge of the carpet in your photo.

The stair turns are cut at the warehouse thrn edging is done at the carpet whippers before it’s laid by the fitter.
Personally I think it looks odd but I expect it’s a fashion that people will pay over the odds for.

Chemenger · 26/06/2026 11:46

Herringbone makes my eyes go funny in a way that can bring a migraine on. I can’t look at it for long.

lilaccamille · 26/06/2026 11:47

Why not try a black version? It’s very neutral but if that’s your style then it’s perfect.

Siblingof · 26/06/2026 11:47

I like it. I’m a fan of neutrals for decorating. If I had it here my cat would use the binding at the sides as a scratching post.

It's screams 'private let. I don't like it at all. JMO though.

Lonelycrab · 26/06/2026 11:50

Light beige with a dark beige border. Not my cup of tea being honest.

patooties · 26/06/2026 11:52

I’d have it narrower as a runner with black wicking.

VividDeer · 26/06/2026 11:54

We have a wool carpet on our stairs. Its stripe grey type and I really like it.
An issue we had though was that the grippers poked through. Kids got injured a few times. The style was a thin carpet that was problem. Not a cheap one!

You can get the Westex from designer carpets, a good sized remnant will do the stairs and it’s a third of the price. I agree it’s absolutely bomb proof.

OvernightBloats · 26/06/2026 11:54

Nice but not practical for a family. Carpet will mark easily and get dirty looking fast.

TeaAndStrumpets · 26/06/2026 12:05

Is it from Unnatural Flooring? I was looking at their faux sisal (fear of moths!) and did really fancy a bespoke runner with a nice edging. On mature reflection decided against it, you need a pretty wide tread to carry it off, so will be getting plain. PP mentioned herringbone making their eyes go funny and now I can't unsee it, especially as I was going to use it for all of upstairs (decision fatigue😱!) Luckily haven't ordered yet.

Hope you find something nice.

DancingNotDrowning · 26/06/2026 12:15

What on earth are people doing in their houses that would get so grubby that people are referencing it?

the carpet is not particularly light and herringbone disguises small marks. Do you all have hotel style geometric swirls or something?!

montysmaw · 26/06/2026 12:51

GasPanic · 26/06/2026 11:07

It looks a bit bland. I would go for the partial runner (2/3 the stair width) with
strong colour on the edges to set it off.

I want a runner!
But
How do you do landings?
What happens on the corner?
What happens to the top step at the landing?

nooneliterallyspatouttheirtea · 26/06/2026 12:52

It's really lovely

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMn · 26/06/2026 10:45

I have a husband who never remembers to take his shoes off AND 3 DC 😳

It's like the one I used to have. I hadn't chosen it, but liked it well enough. It's 'fine'/neutral, but not terribly practical if you're not a 'shoes off indoors' family. Especially if it's right by the front door

I have similar, I wouldn’t worry. Dh can be trained. Everyone takes her shoes off before going up the stairs in this house. It’s gorgeous ❤️

PancakeClock · 26/06/2026 13:08

I’m curious what kind of carpets/flooring all the people saying this is bland and dull have. I mean, sure, it’s neutral, but do people really go for bold and interesting carpets? Rugs are different of course (but even then, a neutral one can look nice!)

I think it’s lovely. The only thing I’d query is will the pattern be ok with the shape of your landing? Will the lines run in the right direction, if you see what I mean?

I have no clue, mine are straight - and I did stair rods.

Once you've fixed the stairs replacing the runner is not too bad.

I am thinking of changing mine for something like this :

The jute runners with the coloured borders are en vogue at the moment.

But the great thing about a runner is you can change it easily. Or at least you can on straight stairs.
